Xbox One Review: User Interface
You can pin your favourite games and apps to the Home screen for easy access and launch.
The New Xbox Experience, introduced at the tail end of 2015, is the new way of using Xbox One and it’s light years ahead of the Windows 8-based abomination early adopters had to endure for two years straight. The NXE is all about dividing all your content into four key sections – Home, Community, OneGuide and Store – with each one flowing much like a social media feed. Think of it like a rolling homepage with all the important functions on each tab accessible quickly with the minimum of fuss.
Games now have their own homepages known as Game Hubs – from here you flit between captures screenshots or video, see your Achievements and more. So the more you and your friend’s play, the more populated these Hubs become. Players now have an increased friends cap as well 1,000 friends and can also follow other players, in much the same way that they would on Twitter.
The Store expands into four individual sub menus when selected – Games, Apps, Movies & TV and Music – and once again, everything is represented by large thumbnails with all the important functions are all front and centre. For those that love browsing digital titles, this clean and fresh UI is a godsend.
The Xbox One UI has had a lot of changes over the years, but the current version is far more user-friendly than PS4’s.
Initial Announcement And Content Acquisitions
Gates first publicly mentioned the Xbox in an interview in late 1999, stating that he wanted the system “to be the platform of choice for the best and most creative game developers in the world”. It was later announced officially by Gates in a keynote presentation at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose on March 10, 2000, showing off an early prototype build of the system and a series of demos showcasing its hardware. The presentation and the new system were well-received, impressing developers with both the hard drive and the Ethernet port and appealing to them with the notion of easy-to-use development tools.
Microsoft began looking at a series of acquisitions and partnerships to secure content for the console at this time. In early 2000, Sega’s Dreamcast sales were diminishing, in part due to Electronic Arts‘ decision to bypass the console, and Sony’s PlayStation 2 was just going on sale in Japan. Gates was in talks with Sega’s late chairman Isao Okawa about the possibility of Xbox compatibility with Dreamcast games, but negotiations fell apart over whether the Dreamcast’s SegaNet online service should be implemented. Microsoft also looked to acquire Electronic Arts, Nintendo, Square Enix, and Midway without success. The company did achieve success in convincing developers at Bethesda Game Studios and Tecmo about the power of the Xbox over the PS2, lining up The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Dead or Alive 3 as Xbox console-exclusives.
The Original First Release Non Deluxe Set Nintendo Entertainment System:
Outside of early Famicom releases, this is the very first release Nintendo Entertainment System in the USA. This was the New York Test Release and then there was the full blown second release NES Deluxe Set soon after that I will post below. This System complete Can go for anywhere from $400 on up.
What determines the value is always the same:
- Condition
- Which model/ release
- Is it still new or not
This complete systems can vary all over the map in price difference just due to condition alone. Id be more likely to buy a nice condition system vs a banged up system even if it is complete.

Nes Action Set With Zapper And Super Mario/ Duck Hunt
This was the second biggest craze and probably the system you saw in most peoples homes. It is possible that I was wrong and that this was the highest selling system in the NES era. Everyone had a zapper and Duck Hunt. I can still hear the Duck Hunt theme in my head now

The combo of Super Mario and Duckhunt is probably the most seen cartridge on the planet which is what leads me to believe that this could be the most sold system ever .
This is the most complete system as very few people ever played R.O.B. so why even pay the extra and have it?!
These action sets were about $115.00 new and easily available. One reason these sold a lot was that at this point, Nintendos game line was expanding fast and there were soooo many game options to play and buy. When you went to go get a system, this is pretty much what they had on hand. People just wanted the extra gun for a little more money .
You can find these on eBay any time you want for $125 on up if it has the box and is complete. If it is just the basic system, game, gun, but no box, you can get it for $55-$75.
Is The Original Xbox Worth Anything
I have an Xbox at my dad’s house, it has only ever been used about 5 times and is in fantastic condition. Do you guys know if people still buy them? How much can they go for?
20-60 dollars depending on condition and what else you’re selling with it but even then, I wouldn’t expect a quick sell.
It’s definitely not worth much my mind gets blown every time I see people on Craigslist trying to sell an original Xbox for $250 or trade for an Xbox One just because they’re throwing in 15 outdated games and a few controllers.

Look on eBay and search listings. Make sure to look at “Completed Listings” to see what similar items actually sold or didn’t sell for. Sold items’ price will be in green, unsold will be in red. This is a better method than looking simply at the prices that people are currently asking, because you can ask any price, but it doesn’t mean anyone’s gonna pay it.

Can A Xbox One Be Modded
Modding an Xbox in any manner will void its warranty, as it may require disassembly of the console. Xbox One: What’s The General Experience Like In 2021

All things considered, the Xbox One is still a fantastic way to experience everything Microsoft has to offer right now, whether you’re still hanging onto the original model from 2013, or benefiting from the more powerful Xbox One X. Microsoft has made a point of giving just as much attention to its older systems as it does to the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S for now, so you’re not missing out on too much by sticking with the Xbox One.
For example, the user interface remains almost exactly the same as that of the new consoles, you still get access to the vast library of backwards compatible games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 generations, Xbox Game Pass is still filled with hundreds of titles you can play, and there are still very few exclusive games on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at present, so you can access 99% of the modern Xbox library by sticking with the Xbox One.
You will notice differences if you get a chance to compare the Xbox One S with the new Xbox Series S, for example, primarily in terms of improved visuals, how much faster games load, how much better they perform , and many other quality-of-life improvements. The original Xbox One and Xbox One S definitely tend to struggle at times with more modern games, with the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order suffering instances of judder and freezing on occasion.

Oh the age old question. For all of those that watched storage wars years ago, it really added a headache as everyone thought they were worth a million dollars all of a sudden! Thanks fake reality TV. No, it is not worth a million dollars, but there are some variations that if in the right condition could be worth tens of thousands of dollars to the right collector.
To figure out a better gauged price range, lets take a look at some of the variables we need to consider first.
How Much Do Xbox Consoles Cost
Before we discuss specifics, it’s important to consider the price of each Xbox console. While there are other factors that go into deciding if an Xbox One is right for you, the value for money is one of the most practical.
The Xbox One S retails for $300, while the more powerful Xbox One X has a sticker price of $500. There’s also the All-Digital Xbox One S for $250, which lacks a disc drive.
As it turns out, these prices match the new Xbox Series S and Series X exactly. As a result, it doesn’t make much sense to pay for an Xbox One now if you think you might buy an Xbox Series X/S in a year.
If you do get an Xbox One, we’d recommend looking for a second-hand model to avoid paying full price. At the time of writing, it’s difficult to even find an Xbox One in stock.

Steel Battalion : $250 $500
Steel Battalion : $40 $105The original Xbox was and interesting entry into the console wars: an American tech powerhouse adapting in PC architecture and trying to shake up the industry.
Even though Microsoft had a difficult time getting strong Japanese developer support, but those that did sign on were excited to make use of its hardware strengths. Capcom was amongst the established developers that created some fresh content for the Xbox and really took things to the next level with Steel Battalion. The game not only delivered a high-end mech simulator that gamers would only expect on a PC, but created a custom controller that drastically elevated the experience. Both during the Xboxs original run and in the two decades that followed, Steel Battalion has remained a legend that is included in our Games That Defined the Xbox guide.
Its a bit unfair to include Steel Battalion so high on the list as most of the value of the full set is due to the massive controller that remains as a mech fans dream come true. However, even the bare game still holds its own in the top 10, so we cant complain too much. Its also worth mentioning that used copies have are now significantly over its original retail price of $200. Back in our 2009 guide, it was only in the $81 to $204 range with the controller in our 2009 guide .
Xbox One Review: Verdict
The Xbox One might be the less powerful of the Xbox One family of consoles, but it’s still a gaming beast in its own right.
Like its nearest and dearest rival, the Xbox One is absolutely loaded with potential. While it may have struggled in both user confidence and PR status in its first 12 months, Microsoft has done a confident job in cutting away the dead flesh of previous errors.
A shadow of the console it unveiled at E3 2013, the Xbox One is still better for it. It’s now faster, more powerful and boasts enough base features to make even Sony look over its shoulder. PS4 may be selling more units, but the Xbox One is snapping at its heels with every passing month.

Xbox One Review: Kinect
There’s a good chance if you’re reading this review anytime after the initial first few months of launch that you don’t have access to a Kinect sensor, but we’ll round up its functions and usability because we’re thorough like that. The Kinect sensor has been re-vamped since its first introduction on Xbox 360. It can now monitor heart-rate and muscle density meaning the virtual drill-instructors on the Fitness App will be doing players more good than ever.
Kinect also comes into its own on the video calling in Skype. Not only does the sensor produce a streaming video of the player at a pretty reasonable quality, but if they get up and wander about the room, the camera will track them.
The sensor’s fidelity and spatial requirements have been vastly improved players no longer need to stand so far back from their TV set although players may find themselves having to repeat the odd voice command.
Kinect can also track more players up to four players can jump into a Kinect game now, and the sensor’s facial recognition technology can differentiate between them.
Finally, it’s worth pointing out that Kinect is better able to filter out intruding lights and sounds.
Unlike the previous iteration, the new Kinect module can work in almost pitch dark and isn’t interrupted by lights angled towards it. It’s also able to differentiate between the players voice and sounds coming out of the TV’s speakers.

How Much Is An Xbox Slim E Worth

Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast : $105 $175
Sega has so many awesome franchises under their belt, but in recent years they have struggled to do them justice. However, the 21st century resurrection of the Outrun franchise was right one the mark when it came to maintaining the exhilarating arcade feel in a modern gaming world.
The original Outrun 2 release is a quite affordable gem to own on the OG Xbox, but this Coast 2 Coast follow-up did not get a very large production run on the Xbox despite being relatively plentiful on the PS2.
With that being said, keep in mind that while Coast 2 Coast is indeed a solid release from Sega, you could be more than fine with the original Outrun 2 release or play Coast 2 Coast on another platform more affordably. Back in our original 2009 version of this guide, Coast 2 Coast was merely an honorable mention on the list, weighing in at a $20 to $28 price range. It wasnt until 2016 that solid collecting interest in this version really started to take off, hitting a $70 to $80 range. Since then, Coast 2 Coast has risen gradually and established itself as the most in-demand Xbox standard retail release that doesnt include a special controller.
