Xbox Game Pass Comparison
Suffice it to say, if you dont have the cash to make a big upfront purchase, then Microsoft still wants to get you on board for its next generation of consoles. You wont own any of the games you can play , but thats the trade-off you make.
Microsofts plans for the next generation of gaming are sprawling. Two consoles that are available via subscription and can play a huge chunk of your existing Xbox games, a new roster of games that will be playable on your existing Xbox One, a continuing focus on PC gaming, and a game streaming service mean that, no matter what hardware you own, theres a decent chance youll be able to pay Microsoft to play its games.
Weve written before about how the focus on trying to sell subscriptions rather than premium hardware means that the true next-gen Xbox is the subscription itself, rather than the hardware it plays on. Microsoft is casting its net wide, and it doesnt want any hardware requirements to get in the way of you subscribing.
Sony, meanwhile, is doing what its always done: its making a new console, developing exclusive games for it, and selling it. Its hard to argue too much with the approach when its done so well for the company so far, especially with the PS4.
Update November 12th, 1:30PM ET: Added hands on impressions now that the Xbox Series S and Series X have launched.
Can You Pre Order Xbox Scarlett
Microsoft has announced the official name for Project Scarlett is Xbox Series X. However, despite revealing the console at The Game Awards, Microsoft isnt ready to open pre-orders just yetif you want to buy it, youll have to keep waiting. And thats an intentional choice on the part of Microsoft.
Xbox Play And Charge Kit
Buying new batteries is a drag, and this simple kit will allow you to do away with AA batteries for good. Much like its predecessors on older Xbox consoles, this pack plugs into the back of your controller to provide power for even the longest of gaming sessions, and recharges when plugged in via USB-C. A single kit will cost $24.99. This sounds expensive, but if you think about how many batteries youd have to buy over the years, its worth it.

Xbox Series X Price: We Predict The Final Price
We’ve put together our predictions on how much we think Xbox Series X will cost when it launches this holiday.
By GameSpot Staff on June 28, 2020 at 1:08PM PDT
For years, Microsoft has been setting the foundation for its next-gen console, Xbox Series X. After having to recover from the blunder of the Xbox One’s launch, the company has spent the latter years of this past console generation catering more to the consumer by advocating cross-platform play and backwards compatibility and expanding its service model with things like Xbox Game Pass and the still-in-development Project xCloud. It’s setting the stage for a very interesting next generation if it can get the software support it needs from developers, including its own studios and third-party companies.
Still, as we learn more about Xbox Series X’s architecture, its games, and what Microsoft has in mind for the future it wishes to cultivate with the console, we still don’t know how much it’ll cost. Until Xbox Series X launches this holiday, our imaginations will likely continue to run wild, wondering about potential price points–at least until Microsoft finally confirms it during one its Xbox 20/20 streams.

What Are The Specs Of Xbox Series X
Instead of drowning you in a pool of stats and figures, here are a couple of important highlights of the Xbox Series X specs:
- Xbox Velocity Architecture: Xbox Series Xs new architecture is built for speed and power. The combination of its hardware and software is touted to improve the way games even those from the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox perform, from improved boot and load times to more stable frame rates and higher resolutions.
- Massive Storage and Memory: Xbox Series X boasts 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and a 1TB SSD, which is plenty of storage and speed. But if thats not enough, theres the option of a proprietary 1TB expansion SSD for the system that will provide even more storage for games. While third-party SSDs will work with the Xbox Series X, games will need to be transferred to the consoles storage for play.
- 4K Visuals: At launch, Xbox Series X will deliver native 4K 60 frames per second gaming. However, Microsoft claims that the console will also be 8K ready and be able to deliver up to 120 frames per second.
And if youre interested in the numbers, here they are:
- Processor: 8-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2-architecture CPU at 3.7-3.8GHz
- Graphics: AMD Navi/RDNA 2-family GPU with 52 CU at 1.825GHz
- Video memory: 16GB GDDR6
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD proprietary 1TB SSD add-on module USB 3.2 external HDD support

Xbox Series X: Size And Dimensions
Just how big is this thing? Microsoft has now released official dimensions, putting it at 301mm x 151mm x 151mm .
Compared to an Xbox One X at 300mm x 240mm x 60mm, the Xbox Series X has a far larger volume, most likely to accommodate airflow and the technology inside it. Microsoft has stated that it built it this way to ensure that it is virtually silent while powering next-gen cutting edge visuals. You can compare the size of the Series X against the Series S and PlayStation 5 in the link below.

Whats Xbox All Access
Microsoft offers a two-year, interest-free payment plan called Xbox All Access. Plans include the console of your choice and two years of Xbox Game Pass, Microsofts combined games subscription and online service. Under an Xbox All Access payment plan, Xbox Series X costs $34.99 per month for 24 months, and the Xbox Series S costs $24.99 per month for 24 months.
System Software And Features
Both consoles feature a similar user interface to the Xbox One, but there has been a 40% reduction in memory use to improve its speed. According to the UI development team, the Home section loads in about half the time as it did on the Xbox One. Other changes include adding rounded UI elements, a more-readable font for text elements, rearrangement of certain aligned features, and improvements to the sharing functions. These changes were brought to the Xbox One system software, the Windows’ Xbox application, and the Xbox mobile application around September 2020. Based on system previews, about 200 GB of space was reserved on the internal drive of the Xbox Series X for system files.
The console’s Quick Resume feature will allow users to suspend and resume more than one game at a time, and also resume suspended games after a reboot of the console.
Several video and streaming media services will be available through the system software on the consoles’ launch notably, it will be the first time that Apple TV+ will be available on Xbox consoles.
Microsoft plans to migrate the xCloud service from Xbox One S-based blade servers to Xbox Series X-based systems by 2021.

How To Save Money On Xbox Series X
Alright, so the Xbox Series X price is still a hefty chunk of cash to spend. But you don’t necessarily have to pay it off in one go. Enter Microsoft’s fancy Xbox All Access system. This is a payment plan, and it allows you to get an Xbox Series X for a monthly fee spread over two years. It’ll set you back $34.99 per month in the US, £28.99p/m in the UK, and $46p/m in Australia.
Interestingly, Xbox All Access doesn’t just get you the console. It also offers 24 months of Game Pass Ultimate as well. Because Game Pass is a bit like Netflix for gaming , that’s a solid deal. Particularly due to the fact that new Xbox exclusive games like Halo will appear on Game Pass for free on the day of release.
Thanks to this, Xbox All Access might be one of the more sensible options when it comes to buying an Xbox Series X. Indeed, it saves you money in the long run. Sure, you’re only getting a small amount knocked off the overall price, but it’s still cheaper than buying the console and two years of Game Pass separately.
However, be advised that you won’t find Xbox All Access in many stores besides Microsoft. GameStop fills that role in the US, and Game or Smyths have the honor in the UK.

Sonys Mark Cerny Hints At The Ps5 Price
Unless youve been living under a rock or youre wrapping up a 24-hour marathon of Apex Legends, then youve probably heard about . In this exclusive interview with Wired magazine, the lead architect of the new system at Sony dropped a ton of info about the upcoming console from Sony, but he failed to mention anything about the price
Or did he?
Me: There’s always been a general range of launch pricing. Will the next console hew to that range?: I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.
The writer of the piece, Peter Rubin, tweeted about an exchange he had with Mark Cerny regarding the price of the new system:
So, it sounds like it will be more than the PS4, but also within a reasonable range. To me, this further enhances our $499 price point, as Microsoft made similar claims about the Xbox One Xs price point prior to its launch.
We also need to remember that Sony didnt have much luck last time they tried to charge $599 for a system, so its hard to imagine they would push the price that high. That being said, rumor has it that Sony will sell the systems at a $100 loss per console at launch, so if we take a $599 price point and subtract $100, then we come to our predicted price of $499.

The best cheap Xbox One bundles available right now
You’ll find all the best Xbox One deals right here. It’s worth noting that not only are many looking to buy the Xbox Series X these days, but the current Xbox Series S price is better value for money than the older console. It also won’t be long before Microsoft discontinues the last-generation console.
The new console comes in at $299 for the cheaper Series S, and $499 for the fully-fledged Xbox Series X console. That’s bad news for the Xbox One, which is priced around the same as the Series S and hardly has any stock available to buy. Nevertheless, the previous generation console may justify its place in the world in a very specific scenario and if you find it cheap somewhere.
If you’re looking for a disk drive, it’s worth noting that the Series S won’t allow you to use your physical media. If the price is right on the Xbox One deals below, then, it’s worth grabbing a cheaper console while you wait for the Series X to drop in price.
Our advice if you do want to go for a One S or One X right now is to jump on the remaining stock while you still can and don’t get too caught up in looking for a bundle. It’s often cheaper to pick up a standalone console and get your extras separately with some cheap Xbox game deals and Xbox controller deals.

Microsofts Two New Consoles
This week, Microsoft released its two new Xbox consoles. Theres the $499 Xbox Series X, and a cheaper $299 Xbox Series S. You can read our reviews of both of them by following the links below.
Its not unusual for console manufacturers to offer a couple of different hardware options at launch, but normally, the differences are minor. The PS3, for example, was initially available in two models. There was a version with a 60GB hard drive as well as a cheaper version with a smaller 20GB hard drive, no Wi-Fi support, and fewer ports. Meanwhile, Microsoft also originally sold a Core version of the Xbox 360 in 2005, which included compromises like including a wired rather than wireless controller and omitting a hard drive.
The differences between the Xbox Series S and Series X are more substantial and have a big impact on how games look. While Microsoft says the Series X is targeting running games at 60fps at a full 4K resolution, the Series S instead targets a lower 1440p resolution at 60fps. Its a big power disparity, similar to what we saw between the Xbox One and the Xbox One X, but this time, the two consoles were available on day one, rather than releasing years apart.
The Xbox Series X comes complete with a disc drive.Microsofts Series S is less powerful and digital-only.
Xbox Rechargeable Battery: $24/19
One of the only real downsides to the Xbox Wireless Controller is it still uses AA batteries to power it rather than a rechargeable cell. Chemical batteries arent particularly elegant to use, not exactly great for the environment and can get quite expensive, as after a few lengthy game sessions theyll run out of juice. So to avoid that inconvenience youll need the Xbox Rechargeable Battery.
That means parting with $24/£19 if you want to have one controller with a rechargeable battery pack. Itll save you money in the long run, but its a little disappointing Microsoft didnt put a rechargeable battery pack in the new Xbox Wireless Controller by default.
