Better Graphics On Old Games Great Graphics On New Games
The Xbox Series X and Series S feature a new generation of graphics hardware that is more capable than the components of previous consoles in a variety of ways. In most titles, you can expect higher resolutions, higher frame rates, and more detailed characters and environments compared to the same games on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, all with better image quality. Effects should also be more pronounced and sophisticated, as the new graphics hardware in these consoles can pull off greater amounts of fancy tricks like smoke and fog that has physical properties, and lighting that creates shadows and reflections more like it does in the real world.
Can You Buy Xbox Series X In Store
In the US, in-store stock varies by region, but we are seeing some success with Target. Be sure to check in-store stock levels early in the morning and head down straight away if you spot consoles available. Stores are allocating what little stock they have on a first come first served basis, but it is possible to buy the new Xbox Series X in person.
If you’re in the UK, things are a little different. Obviously the current lockdown has scuppered many plans to buy Xbox Series X in store so you’re at the mercy of online retailers for now.
New Games New Hardware
New hardware needs new games to make the most of it, and Microsoft and its partners have announced a host of games that are coming to its new console. The biggest of these is Halo: Infinite, the latest entry in the long-running sci-fi first-person shooter franchise thats become synonymous with the Xbox brand since its debut way back in 2001.
Unfortunately, Microsoft recently delayed Halo: Infinite, meaning it will now release in 2021, rather than arriving alongside the new console. News of the delay, which Microsoft attributed in part to the pandemic, came after the games visuals were met with criticism after their initial unveiling, prompting developer 343 Industries to admit, We do have work to do to address some of these areas and raise the level of fidelity and overall presentation for the final game.
With other Xbox staples like Fable and Forza Motorsport without release dates, the delay has left third-party publishers to fill in the rest of the launch lineup, including Assassins Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, Watch Dogs Legion, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Heres a guide to the best launch day games, and heres what the months ahead are looking like in terms of new releases.
Assassins Creed Valhalla is a high-profile launch title for the new consoles.

Faster Performance Higher Frame Rates
The Xbox Series X and Series S have dramatically more powerful CPUs than previous-generation consoles didin the neighborhood of four times as powerful as their predecessor in raw speed and the number of cores and threads, to say nothing of seven years worth of efficiency and other improvements. This means faster user interfaces and much faster load times,1 as well as more sophisticated character and game behaviors, and just more stuff on screen at any given moment.
But the biggest improvements are most apparent in frame rates, which should hit 60 frames per second much more often this generation than last. The more frames per second, the more often the controller and the game are communicating. So a new Series X or Series S should feel like it responds faster and more reliably to your inputs. And when games cant maintain consistent frame rates, support for variable refresh rates should help keep those games from feeling unresponsive. Recent examples here include Diablo 2: Resurrected and Psychonauts 2, both of which offer 60 FPS modes on Series X and S unavailable on the Xbox One. The upcoming Battlefield 2042, is supposed to run at 60 FPS, but never manages it on Xbox One or even the PlayStation 4. On the Series X and S, performance in the recent beta was consistently smooth.
The Xbox Network Saw Its Highest Number Of Subscribers In December 2020 With 100 Million Of Them
- The service was launched in November 2002 and by July 2004, it had finally reached the 1 million subscriptions milestone. One year later, 2 million players were using Xbox Live.
- In February 2010, it was announced that the service had now 23 million subscribers.
- From Q2 2016 to Q4 2019, the number of subscribers would oscillate between 48-65 million.
- In April 2020, it reached 90 million subscribers, a record that would be broken in December.
The Xbox Network is a service delivered by Microsoft that allows players to play multiplayer games, among other features. The service is also described as the Netflix of video games thanks to its media sharing options. Signing up is free, but to fully enjoy all those options, one has to pay a monthly fee via the Xbox Live Gold. In doing so, users can not only go on multiplayer in non-multiplayer games, but they can also have access to four games for free per month, they can share and record their games, stream on Twitch, etc It is a really advantageous service, even if it is apparent that Xbox started neglecting some aspects of it. Namely, the free games that have been the target of most users ire, as the formers are not appealing at all. From totally unknown titles with no production value whatsoever to games that have been panned in the past, subscribers feel robbed.

Microsoft Gaming Division Ended 2021 With Over 25 Million People Subscribed To Their Xbox Game Pass
- The Game Pass gives you access to a catalog of well over 300 games.
- 70% of players on both Series X and S had an active Game Pass subscription on launch day.
- In October 2021, experts estimated that the number of Xbox Game Pass subscriptions was over 20 million.
- In April 2020, the service had 10 million subscribers. By September 2020, it was now up to 15 million subscribers. In January 2021, 18 million people were subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass.
The Xbox Game Pass is going to celebrate its 5th anniversary in 2022, but it is already obvious that Xbox counts on this new service the most. It is even directly linked with the whole we do not care about the number of consoles sold, as it was followed by what counts are the number of players we have. The Game Pass will give users access to hundreds of games from a range of publishers. The catalog changes regularly with games being added or removed. Of course, it is not free, but being able to play games for free for as long as they are in the catalog in exchange for a monthly fee is a pretty good deal. Subscribing to the Ultimate version even comes with a subscription for the Xbox Live Gold service. Microsoft is giving a lot of attention to the Game Pass, something that was really highlighted after their acquisition of Activision Blizzard King: adding more and more valuable IPs to attract more people.
Halo Infinite Xbox Series X Console Being Sold For $1000 By Scalpers
Resellers are already looking to make a profit from the Halo Infinite Xbox Series X Limited Edition console, with prices reaching over $1,000.
The newly revealed Halo Infinite Xbox Series X Limited Edition console is already unavailable for most, and scalpers have taken advantage of the upcoming release. Xbox Series X/S consoles have been one of the most sought-after products for game fans since their launch in 2020, and Xbox Series X resellers have been purchasing the consoles to sell on for a profit since their release.
New-generation Xbox and PS5 consoles have been hard for legitimate fans to acquire for various reasons. Supply is low, in part due to the global pandemic, and bots and scalpers are a huge problem. When retailers do manage to get stock of the consoles, legitimate buyers have struggled to beat bots created to jump the queue as scalpers look to buy the consoles to sell on for more than the retail price. The problem has been an issue for many, and it’s not clear when PS5 and Xbox Series X/S stock will be more readily available.

Xbox Series X/s Vs Xbox Gen 1
As said before, the Xbox family is now in its fourth generation. We know that with each new generation come new improvements and functionalities and that they influence buyers. You also have loyal Xbox fans who stayed faithful to each generation throughout the years. But does being the latest model and the youngest of the family mean that you will always do better than the older models?
Xbox Series X Restock Tracker: Walmart Has Stock But There’s A Catch
You can buy an Xbox Series X today, but it won’t arrive tomorrow.

The Xbox Series X restock at Walmart last week was one of the longest the console has ever been available at a single stretch, but the availability wasn’t quite what everyone expected. Many who purchased the console were told the shipping date wouldn’t be for a couple of weeks, because unlike other retailers Walmart was holding its Xbox Series X restock before the consoles were actually in its warehouse. Right now, the console is listed as available and shipping tomorrow, but only because the console is being sold by a third party and not officially through Walmart.
If you don’t want to wait for the delayed shipping and increased price from Walmart and need a console now, your best bet is to buy through a service like StockX or eBay, so there’s a layer of buyer protection in case the transaction isn’t legitimate.
Here are our tips for scoring a console safely and without paying inflated prices.

Are Xbox Series X Series S Games Free Upgrades
It depends. Xbox Series X|S Optimized denotes games designed with Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in mind, enabling higher resolutions, improved framerates, and other upgrades previously impossible with the Xbox One family. If an Optimized game releases on Xbox One too, developers can choose to provide free cross-generation upgrades, making a move to the new console a little easier.
The main upgrade route involves Smart Delivery, Microsoft’s standardized initiative for friction-free upgrades between consoles. Supported Xbox Smart Delivery titles automatically grant the best available version for your console, meaning that if you buy Halo Infinite on Xbox One, a better version awaits when you switch to Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. That works for physical discs and digital downloads, with Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and more among early adopters.
However, Smart Delivery isn’t mandatory, and developers aren’t obligated to provide a free upgrade. For example, when a developer puts additional time into developing visual enhancements, they’re allowed to charge for their effects on Xbox Series consoles. For added confusion, publishers like Electronic Arts opted out of Smart Delivery with Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21, while still providing a free upgrade via a more restrictive limited-time offer.
Xbox Game Pass Comparison
Suffice it to say, if you dont have the cash to make a big upfront purchase, then Microsoft still wants to get you on board for its next generation of consoles. You wont own any of the games you can play , but thats the trade-off you make.
Microsofts plans for the next generation of gaming are sprawling. Two consoles that are available via subscription and can play a huge chunk of your existing Xbox games, a new roster of games that will be playable on your existing Xbox One, a continuing focus on PC gaming, and a game streaming service mean that, no matter what hardware you own, theres a decent chance youll be able to pay Microsoft to play its games.
Weve written before about how the focus on trying to sell subscriptions rather than premium hardware means that the true next-gen Xbox is the subscription itself, rather than the hardware it plays on. Microsoft is casting its net wide, and it doesnt want any hardware requirements to get in the way of you subscribing.
Sony, meanwhile, is doing what its always done: its making a new console, developing exclusive games for it, and selling it. Its hard to argue too much with the approach when its done so well for the company so far, especially with the PS4.

Is The New Xbox Backward Compatible With Older Games
The Xbox Series X and Series S are backward compatible with all but a handful of Xbox One titles which were based around the no longer supported Kinect sensor. The Series X and Series S will also play the hundreds of Xbox 360 and Xbox titles that Microsoft made the Xbox One backward compatible with as well. Almost all backward-compatible titles will have a variety of graphical enhancements.
Xbox Series X/s Vs Ps: How Sony Might Bounce Back
Of course, Sony is also aware of its lacking in the subscription service department – and has been reportedly working on a competitor to Xbox Game Pass currently codenamed Project Spartacus. The service will have three tiers to it – a base tier with access to PS Plus, a second one with both PS Plus and PS Now, and a final one with all of these benefits plus a handful of PS1, PS2, and PS3 classics.
Sure, Sony Spartacus might not match up to Xbox Game Pass in terms of sheer value, but it certainly looks to be a step in the right direction. After an initial launch, Sony can certainly make improvements to the service to make it more competitive with Xboxs offerings. In addition to this, Sony also has a firm position in the VR market space, thanks to the incredibly successful PSVR and its upcoming follow-up the PSVR2.
The Tokyo-based giant has also made some important acquisitions of its own to bolster its offerings in the VR department.Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a great example of this, with Guerilla Games working on the title alongside the newly-acquired Firesprite. The PSVR2 could be a game-changer for Sony if it manages to keep an attractive pricing model for the headset and deliver compelling exclusives for it – especially since Xbox is sorely lacking in this department.

Xbox Series X Load Times
|43 seconds||1 min, 52 seconds|
This fast storage also helps enable a feature called Quick Resume on both consoles, which allows you to switch between games incredibly quickly in a lot of cases. The big problem right now is that its not supported by every game, although Microsoft is working to enable it across more titles. When it works, though, Quick Resume is one of the consoles best new additions, and Sonys PS5 doesnt have an equivalent feature.
One of the most significant differences between the Series S and Series X is found in the graphics department. Although both consoles use AMDs RDNA 2 graphics architecture, the Series X has 52 compute units. Thats not only more than double the 20 compute units youll find in the Series S, but theyre also clocked faster at 1.825GHz compared to 1.565GHz. In total, that means the Series X has 12.15 teraflops of graphical horsepower according to Microsoft, compared to 4 teraflops for the Series S.
There arent many cross-platform titles that allow us to see how the performance of the PS5 and Series X compare in practice, but an analysis of Devil May Cry 5 by Digital Foundrysees Sony and Microsofts consoles performing very similarly. In some modes, the Series X offers slightly faster performance, while the PS5 is ahead in others.
Xbox Series X Price Vs Playstation 5 Price
After many leaks and speculation, Sony confirmed the PS5 Digital and PS5 prices at £360 and £450 respectively. That came as a pleasant surprise to those who’d expected the PS5 to be priced much higher than the rival Xbox Series X.
As it turns out, the full-fat PS5 and Xbox Series X cost the same, although the all-digital Series S undercuts the PS5 Digital Edition by a fair margin of £90 .
Bear in mind, however, that the Xbox Series S is less powerful than the Series X, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition is identical to the standard PS5 except for the lack of a disc drive.

New Games No Hardware
Say you dont own an Xbox or a gaming PC, but you do have an Android phone. Does Microsoft have any next-gen gaming options for you? Thanks to game streaming, it does. On September 15th, Microsoft added game streaming to Xbox Games Pass Ultimate, which costs $14.99 a month. The feature, which was known previously as xCloud, could give you a way to play many of the biggest Xbox Series X games without having to own any gaming hardware at all. You can stream them to a device as simple as an Android phone, for example .
Game streaming isnt an entirely new idea Sony launched its PlayStation Now service way back in 2014 to a muted response but Microsoft is taking a much more interesting approach. Rather than focusing on older titles, as Sony did with PlayStation Now, Microsoft says its new games will be available to stream the day they release and lists recent first-party titles like Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, Tell Me Why, The Outer Worlds, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps as being among the 150-plus games available to stream at launch.
Microsoft promises to let you stream major Xbox games straight to your phone.
