Can PlayStation And Nintendo Compete with Xbox Game Pass?

Lets take a quick look at what to expect from future developments in the gaming world.

22. Mobile gaming revenue is expected to amount to 57% of the total gaming revenue by 2021.

Convenience drives us to play on our mobile devices. We can do it anywhere. Just take a ride on the subway if you dont believe me.

Slowly but surely, mobile is taking over other more traditional forms of gaming. All this arguing among gamers over PC vs console statistics has moved the focus away from this trend. Nevertheless, mobile games are here to stay.

23. In 2020, there were 214.1 million mobile phone gamers in the US and Canada.

And this is a pretty impressive number, considering there are 291.8 million mobile users in the two countries.

But how frequently are these people playing video games? Well, 74% of mobile phone owners use their device in an average month to play a mobile game.

24. 78% of the digital games revenue comes from free-to-play games.

Thats right! Digital games spending grew 12% in 2020, reaching $127 billion across mobile, PC, and console.

Free-to-play games generated the majority of digital revenue, at $98.4 billion. This shows that users are far more willing to buy additional content than pay for the game upfront .

It doesnt matter if were talking about mobile, console, or computer video gaming free games bring more profit.

How Many Hours Of Video Games Is Too Much Its Debatable

Experts in the fields of physical health, mental health, child development, and psychology conduct ongoing studies of the impact of screen time . The results? Disagreement and debate. The most definitive answer is that there isnt yet a clear recommendation for the maximum number of hours kids should spend playing video games and generally using screens.

The uncertainty is obvious in study results:

  • San Diego State University psychology professor and researcher, Jean Twenge, maintains the safe limit for teens is one to two hours daily
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics says the one- to two-hour limit is for young children age two to five and that older kids and teens have consistent limits but dont define that numerically
  • A study authored by Twenge and conducted by San Diego State University and Florida State University found that, in teens, more than five hours of video games is too much
  • A 2010 survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that many youths are playing for more than 50 hours a week, which far exceeds the five hours daily mark
  • Problem gamers play video games between 80 and 100 hours per week at more than double full-time employment or school, this is indisputably too much

No one can say definitively how much gaming is acceptable. Not only that, some researchers and psychologists argue that the amount of time spent on gaming is irrelevant, that too much isnt a real issue.

Football Manager In Academic Work

Championship Manager has been the object of a sociological study where it is concluded that not only football culture is essential to fully live the gaming experience, but also gamers build their sporting identity by playing the game. Other media like films are described as providing only restrictive narratives to the sports fans, while in contrast, sports video games in general and Football Manager in particular provide more fluid narratives, and a wealth of information that helps construct the identity of the football fan, beyond sport itself.

The Football Manager gaming online community has been studied as a workforce to co-construct the crowdsourced database of football players that the game relies on to simulate football matches and careers. The mutual influence of the game and real life football is described as twofold. First, database players simulated potential and real life transfer market activity are mutually shaping each other. The other mutual influence highlighted are the real life football and game metrics that quantify and measure the footballing activity.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: The Conclusion

If we’re being totally fair, the Xbox One and the PS4 are both thrilling consoles that deserves your time and energy. That said, it’s hard to deny that the PS4 has a library that is simply unmatched by the Xbox One, including massive hits like God of War and The Last of Us Remastered, games that shook the gaming world to the point that they are still talked about today.

PlayStation VR, another feature from Sony, is also huge and is slowly, but surely, earning more than its fair share of audience at a rate that the Xbox One seems to be struggling behind in.

Th,is, of course, does not make the Xbox One a bad console. It’s got cheaper deals, backwards compatibility and it has support from accessories like Alexa, but unfortunately the PS4 still manages to pull ahead.

Pro Ps: Playstation Vr Is Not

We Support These Same

Dont knock it till you try it. The PlayStation VR, when its firing on all cylinders, is really, truly, amazing. Were not convinced its the future of gaming or that one day it is how well play all games but VR is definitely onto something special. It might sound like marketing spin, but looking into a mirror and seeing Batman –or physically ducking to hide behind a desk– is impressive. Resident Evil 7 is proof that a whole game can be sustained in VR, now we just need a game built for it. Between the millions of PS4s out there and the relatively affordable cost of PSVR, Sony has the means to make virtual reality happen. More to the point, of all the gimmicks to hit store shelves, VR is the most likely to succeed. The tech is too impressive for it not to find a market someone will make VR viable.

Pro Ps: The Ps4 Controller Is Rechargeable

Its a simple luxury, but there you have it. Not having to think about batteries is a significant bonus. It almost feels antiquated in 2017 to have to consider buying and properly disposing of batteries. Granted, you can buy a battery pack for Xbox controllers and simply replace it if they ever stop keeping their charge. Lets be realistic, though: were going to totally mangle our PlayStation controllers before our batteries fail. It would be nice if PS4 controllers stayed charged a little longer or let you disable the battery-draining light bar. Still, better to have rechargeable batteries then suddenly realizing there arent anymore AA batteries in the house halfway through an online game of Rocket League.

Head To The Xbox Console Companion App To Find Your Xbox

On your computer, download the ‘Xbox Console Companion’ app. It’s worth noting that this is different than the ‘Xbox’ app. Once you have it, choose the ‘Connections’ tab from the sidebar it’s second from the bottom and uses a minimalistic picture of an Xbox console.

Clicking it will prompt the app to look for local Xboxes to connect with. Choose yours from the menu that comes up! Note that it will only appear as long as your Xbox and your computer are using the same WiFi network.

Pro Xbox One: Game Preview Lets You Play Games In Development On Xbox

Playing With Gay People On Halo Reach – Live Gameplay

Its a new way of looking at game development: the community as an integral part of the process. Getting to watch a game develop over time and having a chance to play iterative builds can be remarkably fascinating. Sure, there have been a handful of PC games that never finish their development and end up robbing prospective players of their hard-earned money, but its not all bad. Having a hands-on publisher like Microsoft carefully picking what projects are allowed release in Game Preview makes us rest a little easier. Letting us play massive projects like ARK: Survival Evolved and Gigantic before they’re released is a treat. Its hard to argue with giving console gamers access to some of the popular projects on Windows PC Sony should take note.

Too Gay To Play: Gay Gamers Name Banned From Xbox Live

14 years agoJim Sterling

A gay gamer with the gamertag theGAYERgamer has had his name banned from Xbox Live for being offensive. As we all know, Xbox Live is a hotbed of homophobia, but it seems that if enough bigots raise the alarm, they will be appeased.

I have had a bad morning. Last night when i tried to sign into my xbox live account thegayergamer I was told that it had to be changed. I figured that it was just from people reporting it as an offensive name being that the greater Xbox live community isnt exactly welcome to gay people, i spend a lot of time muting people on Halo3. I assumed that once i called Microsoft they would straighten things out.

I talked to a supervisor there, Roxy, who told me that she didnt personally find the fact that my gamer tag had gay in the name offensive, but that the greater Xbox community did, so i would have to change it. I hope Im not the only person who finds this dont ask, dont tell policy disgusting eek.

So, even if Microsoft employees dont find a name offensive, they will take it down if enough people whine about it. Of course, its not certain whether people complained because they thought the name was homophobic, or if they were themselves homophobes who were offended because of dem darn faggits on mah Live, but given Xbox Lives majority clientèle I think we can more or less rule out the former case.

Working Inside The Industry

Little is known about what it is like to work within the industry as a gay individual. As a result, much of the information that does come to light is in dispute. Dani Bunten, a transgender woman, designed some of the earliest multiplayer games. In 1996, Jacque Servin, a Maxis employee, was fired when he put implied gay characters into the SimCopter game. Some reports state Servin claimed to have done it because he was upset at being grossly overworked at Maxis, while others cited it as a political statement.

Well-known gay writer and movie director Clive Barker was involved in the creation of the games Undying and Jericho.

Nintendo’s Tomodachi Life Controversy

In 2014 Nintendo, and their life simulator videogame, Tomodachi Life, which allows for the creation of avatars called Mii’s to interact with one another came under fire for only allowing opposite sex Mii’s to flirt with one another or become married leading to disappointment amongst LGBTQIA+ fans of the company. Nintendo responded by stating that “Nintendo never intended to make any form of social commentary with the launch of ‘Tomodachi Life,'” Nintendo of America Inc. said in a statement. “The relationship options in the game represent a playful alternate world rather than a real-life simulation. We hope that all of our fans will see that ‘Tomodachi Life’ was intended to be a whimsical and quirky game, and that we were absolutely not trying to provide social commentary.” Nintendo later apologized for the incident and disappointing their fans stating “We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life,” Nintendo said in a statement released Friday. “Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change this game’s design, and such a significant development change can’t be accomplished with a post-ship patch.”

What Percent Of Women Identify As Gamers

Next, we measured the percentage of male and female applicants who make video game purchases.

In our data, male applicants are more than three times as likely to have made gaming purchases than female applicants. While studies have found that about 48% of video gamers are women, only 6% of women identify as gamers they may be less likely to be the one purchasing the games. Also, women are more likely to play games on social media platforms or smartphone apps, which may not have been caught by our transaction keyword filter.

In this study, we painted a picture of the modern video gamer by analyzing student loan refinancing application data. We found that applicants who make video game purchases are more likely to be younger, closer to graduation, have high school diplomas or Associate degrees, and be male. Older applicants, those with advanced degrees, and female applicants were less likely to be gamers. Video game makers may have untapped audiences in older individuals and women and dentists.

What’s Xbox Play Anywhere

If you bought a game digitally on Xbox, it’s attached to your account. Some of these digital games are ‘Xbox Play Anywhere’ titles, meaning that Xbox allows you to play it on your computer without having to buy it again. You can work on the same save files and achievements on both devices. Most Game Pass games are Xbox Play Anywhere titles.

Only games on the Xbox Play Anywhere list can be enjoyed on your PC. Many people who are subscribed to the Game Pass enjoy it but you can also buy individual titles if you prefer. To check if you’ll be able to play a particular Xbox game on PC, search for it on their website or on the Xbox PC app.

Pro Ps: Playstation Games Get High Resolutions Today

However, most games look better on PlayStation 4 right now. Where games struggle to get a higher resolution than 900p on the 2013 Xbox One, its very rare for PS4 games to be lower than 1080p. Also, if you happen to be in the market for a new home console today, the PlayStation Pro is the most powerful machine on store shelves right now. If you want to play the very best console versions of Mass Effect: Andromeda or Resident Evil VII the PlayStation Pro is the way to go. Thats to say nothing of 4K, which already has lots of support on the PlayStation Pro, including breathtaking games like Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End. PS4 has developed the reputation of delivering higher fidelity games and they have earned it.

Xbox Is Celebrating Lgbt+ Pride Month By Making All Accounts Transgender

Playing Halo 4 on Xbox 360 in 2020…

Xbox is celebrating LGBT Pride Month with a lot of pride, in a recent report, Xbox revealed 80% of its gamers were either gay or transgender. To celebrate LGBT it has released a beautiful theme and a custom Xbox one console.

To make this celebration of LGBT one to remember it will make all account avatars transgender for the whole month of June. Xbox gamers have shown their excitement by taking selfies wearing their most stylish drag outfit next to their Xbox gaming system.

While Xbox is showing a lot of support, Sony PS4 has received a lot of backlash for not supporting the LGBT movement. A large portion of Xbox gamers who are transgender have taken this opportunity to brag about how much better Xbox is.

It seems as if the battle of what gaming counsel is the best will be far from over as this moves to more than just gaming but also what platform supports its gamers.

How Many Hours Of Video Games Is Too Much Does It Matter

The amount of time spent gaming may not matter as much as whether video games are interfering in life. Its not simply a matter of hours spent playing video games. The issue may be when rather than how much. When are kids playing games, and when does it become a problem? Once again, the answer isnt set in stone.

Dr. Peter Gray , a research professor at Boston College, explains that many people spend a lot of time pursuing hobbies and passions, but theyre not addicted to those passions. Its the same for gaming. Someone can love video games, get much joy from them, play them for many hours every day, and not have a gaming disorder or video game addiction.

Researchers at Oxford University have taken this notion a step farther. After studying the issue of limiting video game time and general screen time, they concluded that there is no correlation, positive or negative, between digital or online activity and wellbeing. Limiting time spent playing games, therefore, might not be all that beneficial. In fact, they assert, moderate screen-use above the recommended limits might actually be linked to slightly higher levels of childrens wellbeing.

The true issue might not be the hours spent playing video games but how the play interferes in someones life. Gaming can have a negative impact on those engaged in the activity. Some negative effects of video gaming include:

  • Poor school/work performance
