This review doesnt touch the gaming side of the Xbox One S. If thats what interests you, this review discusses some of that. We used use the same 2TB model for this evaluation, but the less-expensive 500GB model will do just as well if you plan to use the machine as an Ultra HD Blu-ray player, media renderer, and 4K video streamer.

Updates that enable the Xbox One S to send Ultra HD Blu-rays high-definition audio bitstreams over HDMI to higher-end A/V receivers render it an incredible bargain, especially if you also enjoy playing video games. You’ll have to jump through a few hoops–including installing Microsoft’s Blu-ray player app–and you’ll need to figure out how to use the Xbox One controller to play Blu-ray discs , but those are one-time obstacles.
If you don’t want to deal with that, and you’re not interested in playing games, a conventional Ultra HD Blu-ray player, such as the Samsung UBD-K8500 or the out-of-this-world Oppo UDP-205 would be better choices..
Microsoft provides an HDMI input on the console, so you can connect your cable or satellite set-top box to the console and pass audio and video from the set-top box through to the Xbox One S. The box also has an infrared output for an IR Blaster, an optical S/PDIF out, a USB 3.0 port in front , a Bluetooth radio, ethernet, and an onboard 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter.

Which Is The Best 4k Blu
ByJohn Archerpublished 12 August 21
Both consoles double as 4K Blu-ray players, but which deserves a space in your home cinema system?
Sony and Microsofts latest console generations are now fully up and running. Both now have plenty of great looking games showing off their respective technical prowess, and initial supply issues are starting to ease – albeit still slowly in the PS5s case.
Sales of both new console gaming titans appear to have been predictably titanic, too – which actually has an interesting side effect for anyone who cares about AV as well as gaming.
While fans have understandably been focused on games since the two new consoles came out, both the Xbox Series X and the premium PS5 model carry built-in 4K Blu-ray players. This means that between them, the new consoles have massively increased the number of 4K Blu-ray players tucked under TVs across the world.
This is a big deal to anyone who, like us, cares about getting the best home entertainment experiences. The more 4K Blu-ray players there are out there, after all, the more UHD-BD discs will hopefully be sold. And the more UHD-BD discs are sold, the more confident film studios will feel about sticking with the latest and greatest physical media format even as they go about setting up their own streaming platforms.

For now, there is no 3D Blu-ray compatibility on Xbox consoles. So when you insert that kind of Blu-ray disc, the Xbox device cant read it.
In fact, you are not allowed to directly play a Blu-ray disc even for a standard 4K Blu-ray. Because Xbox consoles do not come with native disc playback support. Due to the global decline of physical media sales, Microsoft removed the Blu-ray and DVD playback support several years back. Does Xbox 360 Play Blu
When we talk about playing games, the Xbox One/360 and PS4/PS3 game consoles will be the hot choices for us. The former two come from Microsoft, the latter two come from Sony.
A few years ago, most of us use DVD to storage our games, but now, the Blu-ray disc changes the style of playing games, it provides us a better visual enjoyment.
In this part, I will talk about the question that does Xbox 360 play Blu-ray disc in details.
At the very beginning, I need to statement 2 things.
1. computer doesnt have the ability to play Blu-ray disc without a Blu-ray drive and Blu-ray disc playing software.
2. Xbox 360 can only read Blu-ray disc from the same region code. Learn more information about region code.
What Are The Reasons That Blu
If you cannot play Blu-ray discs on Xbox One S/X, here are the 4 common reasons you should know. 1. Just make sure the Blu-ray disc is not dirty, you can wipe the surface of the disc with a clean, soft cloth. 2. If your Blu-ray disc is defective, you need to change for another one. 3. Xbox One S: Amazon Instant Video
Amazon has a lot of UHD content, but it’s been less focused in how this is offered to customers than Netflix perhaps has. Firstly, you don’t need a separate subscription, you just need that Amazon Prime subscription and that will open the gates to Amazon’s offering.
One the Xbox One S, however the app currently doesn’t offer the UHD content you’ll find elsewhere. For example, switch over to Samsung’s native app and you’ll find sections for 4K movies and TV Shows, as well as individual programmes stating they are Ultra HD.
Fire those up and you’ll spot the difference. That mean that, in its current form, the Xbox One S loses out, as it’s not offering this content, although it’s probably only a software update away.
Again, the same argument stand as with Netflix: if you have the app on your TV, do you need to be using the Xbox for the same thing?
Xbox One S: Should I Buy It As A 4k Media Player
Drawing all this to a conclusion. The Xbox One S has its positives: it’s the cheapest Ultra HD Blu-ray player on the market right now, it offers a range of 4K streaming services and will support HDR gaming in the future . Additionally, with the 3.5mm headphone socket on the new controller, you can play/watch/stream quietly and enjoy yourself in the middle of the night without disturbing others.
Offering all the Xbox One features in a better-looking package, makes it a great choice for all-round entertainment especially if you choose the 500GB version thanks to the price, with the following caveats:
- The Ultra HD Blu-ray player market is likely to change drastically in the next 6 months. Wait for IFA 2016 to see if anyone announces a player there: LG, Sony and Philips don’t yet have a player, and a cheaper model may appear very soon, and may offer streaming apps too.
- If you’re a casual gamer but more serious TV watcher, then the Xbox One S is a good choice: aside from those apps mentioned, there’s services from UK TV channels, Now TV, Waiki TV and plenty more.
- If you don’t have any provision for 4K streaming through your smart TV, the Xbox One S fills that gap for Netflix, but but other 4K streaming is currently limited.
- There are few gaming changes aside from HDR support . If you’re a serious gamer, wait for the next-gen Xbox – Project Scorpio – to launch later in 2017.

Is This The Ultra Hd Blu
Youll find a host of apps and services at the Xbox store, including ones for all the big video-streaming players such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube. Games? Come on, this is an Xbox. The Samsung and Panasonic have a couple of titles at most, but theyre nothing like what you can get on Microsofts gaming console.
The Xbox One S isn’t a perfect UHD Blu-ray player at the moment, but it played every disc I threw at it. And when you tire of watching movies, TV shows, and other video content, you can play first-rate games. Its a heck of an entertainment value.
This article was updated to report on the Xbox One S’s ability to stream high-definition audio bitstreams over HDMI. We also increased the review score from 3.5 to 4.

Why I Caved And Finally Bought A 4k Blu
I didn’t need a 4K Blu-ray player. Not really. For one, I’ve that the platform is pretty much dead in the water since it launched in 2016. And then there’s the fact that I already have an Xbox One X for playing 4K Blu-ray discs. Yet, as the days blurred into weeks under quarantine, I felt like that business cat meme: “I should buy a 4K Blu-ray player.”
Truth is, I’ve always hated dealing with the Xbox One X’s slow interface for playing discs, and I never warmed up to using the gamepad as a controller. Sure, I could have picked up an Xbox media remote, but really, I wanted a complete solution to my 4K disc woes. So, even though my media center is already over-crowded with the aforementioned Xbox One X, along with a PS4 Pro, Apple TV, Denon receiver and a Switch dock awkwardly wedged in, I started looking at standalone 4K Blu-ray players in earnest over the past year.
Cost was one issue that held me back early on. While normal Blu-ray players have been incredibly cheap for some time — often well under $100 — their 4K siblings were going for around $300. I couldn’t justify that price when the $499 Xbox One X played the same discs and was already hooked up to my entertainment system . But throughout 2019, I noticed that 4K players were dropping closer to $200 and sometimes less.
