Xbox Series X Restock: Asda And Smyths Toys Live Now But There’s A Catch
Microsoft’s next-gen console can only be purchased via Xbox All Access
ByMatthew Fordelast updated 11 January 22
Xbox Series X Stock is now live at Asda and Smyths Toys. The only catch is that the console can only be purchased through Microsoft’s Xbox All Access programme. Be quick as it’s likely a limited supply for each retailer.
It’s worth considering, as you’ll never need to buy another game in two years with all Xbox first-party games arriving on the service day and date with launch. That’s why it established itself as the best deal in gaming. Smyths has this offer as well but you can also just buy the console outright.
Additionally, Microsoft also has its equally great Xbox Series S all-digital console up for sale too. Very has a decent allotment of Xbox Series S consoles live right now with delivery within one working day.
Anyone lucky enough to get their hands on an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S can start playing the latest, greatest games from Microsoft, including Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Sea of Thieves, Gears 5, The Artful Escape, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Psychonauts 2, Sable, Twelve Minutes, and more.
Wait times are pretty decent at the minute but can change at a moment’s notice, so patience and persistence are the keys to success. Try not to refresh the screen either, just relax and before you know it you’ll have that sweet, sweet confirmation message.

Is Xbox All Access Worth It
If you want an Xbox Series X or Series S console, you effectively have nothing to lose by spreading the cost like this, since it comes with 0 percent APR payments. This is ultimately the same as buying an Xbox Series S or X console outright with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, spreading the cost out over two years instead of all upfront.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $14.99 per month by itself, and the Xbox Series S costs $299.99 to buy outright. 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $359.76. Buying them both together clocks in at $659.74.
Given that Xbox All Access costs $599.76 over 24 months, it actually works out at a $60 saving to get it through Xbox All Access, rather than by buying them both separately. Of course, you may not want Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, in which case buying an Xbox Series S for $299 by itself may be preferable, but if you plan to use both, Xbox All Access is a very great option.
Console Upgrades For Current Xbox All Access Customers

If you signed up for Xbox All Access during the last promotional period, you’ll be able to purchase an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S and start making payments toward one of those consoles however, you’ll be required to make payments on both your old Xbox All Access purchase and your new one until the minimum required payment on your original purchase is met. Once you reach that minimum, you’ll be mailed a trade-in kit to send back your original Xbox All Access console bundle. Once your trade-in kit is received and confirmed, you’ll no longer owe the remaining balance on your original Xbox All Access purchase. Xbox Game Pass 2021 Review: What’s Not So Great
Xbox Game Pass has a range of idiosyncrasies that hinder the platform in some ways. They range from mild irritations to bigger problems, but I would preface by saying none of it feels really like a deal-breaker. Moreover, this is just a range of things I think Microsoft could add to improve the platform.
The first pain point I often see across social media from those with kids is the lack of family access. If you’re using a single shared Xbox, every profile on that home Xbox gains access to Xbox Game Pass. However, if you have multiple Xbox consoles and have a bigger family, you’ll need multiple Xbox Game Pass subscriptions to keep everybody online simultaneously. This is a drawback of Xbox Game Pass that seems to have been overlooked at the time of the service’s creation.
Netflix and Disney+ both support multiple logins across multiple devices with simultaneous streams at different price tiers. I think it would be within Microsoft’s interest to at least consider offering a higher-paid tier for multi-user licensing for families.
Another source of irritation for me at least comes from Project xCloud, or Xbox Game Pass for cloud, across Android . Microsoft is among the first and most prolific companies to offer a cloud gaming option in their service at this scale. Sony has PlayStation Now but doesn’t consistently offer its own games into the service. Amazon Luna is just starting up, and Google Stadia is arguably winding down.
Xbox All Access: The Best Way To Buy An Xbox Series X Or Xbox Series S
We crunch the numbers on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S payment plan.
Deals
Update: Xbox Series X/S pre-orders are now live. You can also find the retailers who are offering the Xbox All Access program there as well.
At last, we’ve finally got some price and release date information for Microsoft’s next-gen consoles! General consensus seems to suggest that we are all quite happy with the price Microsoft has settled on for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S – especially for the lesser-powered console. But what got most poised to open their coffers was the prices available through the Xbox All Access financing program.
The headline that’s got most folks talking? It’s the fact that you could be playing on a next-gen console from as little at £20.99/$24.99/24.99 a month. You pay nothing upfront, there’s 0 per cent interest, it includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and the console is yours to keep after you complete payments at the end of 24 months.
It sounds phenomenal in isolation – like something straight from the mouth of Stan from Monkey Island – but how good of a deal is it really? Here’s a closer look at the Xbox All Access program and whether it really is the best way to buy an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.

What Is Xbox All Access
Xbox All Access will be available for both the Xbox Series X and Series S. This means you’ll pay a monthly cost over 24 months instead of the entire price upfront. Both console plans will come with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes the Game Pass library on both Xbox One and PC, xCloud game streaming, Xbox Live Gold, and an EA Play subscription.
How Do You Cancel An Xbox All Access Contract
Because it’s a binding contract rather than a subscription, there is no way to cancel an all access contract beyond the first 30 days, or get a replacement console outside of a limited warranty coverage period.
It’s also impossible to shed the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate part of the bundle to shed costs during the contract.

Unfortunately–as expected–preorders sold out very quickly at all retailers, and it’s unclear when more will be made available. The Xbox All Access situation was even more precarious, as it’s unclear if anyone was actually able to sign up for a plan through the various retailers offering an Xbox All Access payment plan.
