Relationship With Jeffrey Epstein

A New York Times article reported that Gates’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein started in 2011, just a few years after Epstein’s conviction, and continued for some years, including a visit to Epstein’s house with Melinda in the fall of 2013, despite her declared discomfort. Gates said in 2011 about Epstein: “His lifestyle is very different and kind of intriguing although it would not work for me”.

The depth of the friendship between Gates and Epstein is unclear. Gates generally commented about his relationship with Epstein that “I met him. I didn’t have any business relationship or friendship with him”. However, Gates visited Epstein “many times, despite past”.

It was reported that Epstein and Gates “discussed the Gates Foundation and philanthropy”. However, in an interview in 2019 Gates completely denied any connection between Epstein and the Gates Foundation or his philanthropy generally. In August 2021, Gates said the reason he had meetings with Epstein was because Gates hoped Epstein could provide money for philanthropic work, though nothing came of the idea. Gates added, “It was a huge mistake to spend time with him, to give him the credibility of being there.”

Microsoft , one of the worlds largest technology companies, was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in a garage in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Five years later, Gates and Allen were hired to provide the operating system for IBMs first personal computer , followed in 1985 by Microsofts launch of its now-ubiquitous Windows software product.

In 1986, the company raised $61 million in an initial public offering that some analysts referred to as the deal of the year. By the late 1980s, Microsoft became the worlds largest PC software company.

The Redmond, Washington-based companys stock rose more than a hundredfold in the 10 years after the IPO, and today its one of the worlds largest companies by market value. Microsofts market capitalization is about $2.09 trillion as of April 15, 2022. The company posted net income of $61.3 billion on revenue of $168 billion for its 2021 fiscal year , which ended June 30, 2021.

While Microsoft began as a software company, it has expanded its reach into broad areas of the tech industry. Along with software, the company now sells personal computing devices, cloud-computing infrastructure and services, artificial intelligence , and more. Much of Microsofts expansion has come through a string of small and large acquisitions totaling tens of billions of dollars in value.

Everything New Is Old Again

Microsoft wants millions of Xbox owners to trade

Given the four years between the release of the first Xbox and the arrival of its successor, its no surprise that after six years rumors began circulating in March 2011 that the 360 was on its way out and Microsoft was already hard at work on its next console. The first set of reports surfaced on LinkedIn, where several designers and developers added vague descriptions of a mysterious new project they were working on with Microsoft. There was no stopping the Internet rumor train once it started chugging along, and before long the new console even had an unofficial code name: Xbox 720.

Even with the next-generation rumors, sales of the 360 continued to assert Microsofts powerful position in the console gaming industry, and by September 2012 the company announced that it had hit the 70-million mark in units sold, and by December that number had jumped to 75 million. Although the sales of the 360 trailed behind Nintendos Wii, which sold close to 100 million, it outsold the Ps3 by around 5 million. This news was followed a month later by the debut of Xbox Music and Xbox Video, Microsofts new media services that not only replaced the existing services on the Xbox but also offered an attractive, Apple-style integration across all devices running Windows software.

Bill Gates Initially Wasn’t Too Happy About The Original Xbox Thought It Was An Insult To Everything I’ve Done

This week, our colleagues from IGN recorded a lengthy interview with Xbox co-creator Ed Fries, and the former exec revealed a lot of interesting details about the birth of Microsoft’s gaming Xbox and how the original Xbox team initially envisioned a PC in a console body. However, one of the most interesting bits from this interview may probably be Fries’ recollection of what he calls the “Valentines Day Massacre,” which was the proposal meeting on Valentine’s Day of 2000 where Bill Gates had to decide between supporting Windows in a box or a closed gaming platform like other gaming consoles.

According to what Fries told IGN, the original Xbox team was not prepared to Gates’ initial reaction, to say the least:

Bill walks in, he’s holding our Powerpoint deck, throws it down on the table and says, ‘This is a insult to everything I’ve done at this company’basically was the quote. And that was the start of the meeting.

Following that brutal introduction, Fries explained that he and his colleagues all turned to former Xbox executive James Allard, but as the exec was “like in shock for a minute,” Fries stepped in just to be quickly shut down by Bill Gates. Following his intervention, both Allard and former Microsoft employee Robbie Bach were not more successful in reasoning to Gates, who was then supported by former CEO Steve Ballmer who shared his sentiment that the Xbox could not be financially sustainable.

When Did The Xbox 360 Series X Come Out

The original Xbox launched late in 2001, nearly nineteen years ago. A lot has changed with the brand since then, bringing more power, more exclusives, and more value to consumers around the world. Now, the brand is set to reimagine itself yet again when the Xbox Series X releases this holiday season. But before we move forward, why not take

Bill Gates Completely Lost It Over The First Xbox

“This is a f**king insult to everything I have done at this company.”

Ed Fries, former president of game publishing at Microsoft, has revealed that the first Xbox proposal initially enraged then-CEO Bill Gates.

Fries recalls the first meeting after submitting the plans for the original Xbox, when Gates decided to go into full Malcolm Tucker mode.

“So we go into the meeting on 4 o’clock Valentines Day, Bill walks in he’s holding our PowerPoint deck, he throws it down on the table and says ‘this is a f**king insult to everything I have done at this company’,” said Fries in an interview with IGN.

Not the best reaction they could have hoped for.

Apparently the tirade only escalated from that point, as Fries recalled: “That was the start of the meeting.”

Gates then continued to shout down each person who attempted to pacify him and explain their thinking. The team had been working on the plans for Microsoft’s console debut for over a year.

Gates’ eventual successor Steve Ballmer also decided to get in on the executive-shouty action, upset by the proposal’s acknowledgement that it would, at least initially, be a financial loss for Microsoft.

But… Mystery Man to the rescue! Apparently another member of the meeting, who goes unnamed, saves the day by pointing out that Sony were on the brink of taking over the living room.

“One of the guys who was just an observer at the meeting raises his hand and he says, ‘what about Sony?” Fries added.

Billionaire Bill Gates Branded Xbox Games Console A ‘****ing Insult’ When He First Heard About It

The Microsoft co-founder called the gaming machine an ‘insult to everything I’ve done at this company’ when execs presented their initial proposal

The legendary co-founder of Microsoft was reportedly less-than-impressed with the first version of the popular Xbox games console.

Billionaire Bill Gates launched into a foul-mouthed tirade when employees at the company presented him with ideas they had been working on for over a year.

“We go into the meeting on 4 o’clock Valentines Day, Bill walks in – he’s holding our PowerPoint deck, he throws it down on the table and says ‘this is a ****ing insult to everything I have done at this company’,” said Ed Fries, the former president of game publishing at Microsoft, in an interview with IGN .

The Xbox brand has gone on to become one of the biggest properties at Microsoft but Fries maintains that back then Gates and then-president Steve Ballmer needed convincing.

“We keep saying we’ve spent a year looking at this and this is the best plan. This is the machine we should build,” he said.

Apparently, it took for one member of the team to point out that Sony was “slowly invading the living room,” for Gates to see reason. After that point, he approved the console and threw the resources of the company behind it.

The Moment: What Did Edge Magazine Have To Say About The Xbox Ahead Of Launch

Exclusive: Bill Gates Talks Divorce, Jeffrey Epstein, Elon Musk

“Deep inside Microsoft’s HQ,” revealed Edge issue 88 , “Bill Gates has just given the final approval on X-Box”. Put like that, Microsoft’s mild-mannered chairman and chief software architect sounds more like a cartoon villain than the man who would one day help to wipe out polio in West Africa. That, and the hyphen, aren’t the only things to have changed.

“For the first time ever, a piece of hardware is being created from scratch by guys who have spent their lives developing software,” said Edge, rather reverently. Microsoft entered the console race, Seamus Blackley claimed at the time, out of necessity. “What does the consumer want most? Good games. How do we get that? By giving the developers all the tools and hardware they need to do this. Developers and publishers told us what they wanted, we are in a unique position to provide support and insight. Essentially, the X-Box is a big software business, with this unfortunate hardware aspect we had to learn how to deal with.” Microsoft’s shopping spree since, scooping up 22 game studios plus Zenimax, means it’s bigger business nowadays than perhaps Blackley could have imagined at the time.

Blackley’s tone throughout Edge’s coverage is one of slight amazement, and his colleague Ed Fries is on a similar footing: “Is there another company in the world that could do this? I don’t think so, because it takes a bunch of different pieces, especially the software. The marketing, developer support, worldwide sales and distribution…”
