Pros Of Using The Wired Xbox Controller

How To Tell If Xbox One Controller Has Bluetooth

Here are the unique advantages of using the wired version of the Xbox controller:

  • Just plug it in and it will work. If theres any installation, it will take some time.
  • No additional devices or drivers to be installed on your PC to activate the controller.
  • More affordable than the wireless controller.

Why Doesn’t Xbox One Support Bluetooth

The Xbox One launched without Bluetooth support and half a decade later, it remains absent. It means Bluetooth controllers, headsets, keyboards, and mice aren’t compatible with the console. Microsoft has ruled out the common wireless standard for its Xbox One family, pushing its proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol instead. This in-house technology can be used by cable-free controllers and headsets on Xbox One, building an ecosystem of licensed peripherals.

If you’re an Xbox One owner, you’ve likely been using Xbox Wireless for years without even knowing it. The radio frequency module embedded in all Xbox One consoles taps into this protocol, boasting a higher-frequency connection over standard 2.4GHz Bluetooth. It primarily reduces latency, while packing support for wireless stereo audio, impulse triggers, and more on Xbox controllers. Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless is ultimately superior as the “premium” experience, though it lacks the ubiquity of Bluetooth.

A cynical mindset can also frame this as a lockdown of the Xbox accessories lineup. Microsoft has full control over the wireless Xbox gamepad range, with all wireless controllers designed internally. And while third-party headsets can use the Xbox Wireless chip, the barrier of obtaining Microsoft’s blessing remains. We’ve also seen the Xbox One welcome more accessories with formal mouse and keyboard support, though this is limited to wired or wireless adapters over USB.

How Do I Fix Xbox Controller Input Lag When Gaming On My Pc

When playing an online multiplayer game, input lag could cause you to lose a match because your opponents will use your controller’s input delay against you. If your Xbox controller has input lag and you are tired of losing games, there are ways you can rectify the problem.

You can do several things to reduce your Xbox controller’s input lags, and the first one is disabling the Vsync function on your PC. You can also reduce input lag by updating your controller’s firmware and wireless drivers on your PC. You should reduce the distance between your controller and your PC.

If you are using a Bluetooth adapter, ensure that you plug in the adapter in front of the PC. You should also remove all devices that can interfere with your Xbox controller’s signals. Finally, you should remove all items that can block Bluetooth signals.

Disabling Vsync is one of the easiest methods of ensuring your Xbox controller does not have input lag when gaming on a PC. Vsync or vertical synchronization is a graphics technology that synchronizes the game’s frame rate along with the monitor’s refresh rate. If your display and game cannot sync up, Vsync will keep lowering the frame rate as it tries to point where they can sync up, leading to input lag.

To disable Vsync, open settings on your gaming PC, go to “Graphics” and select “Disable Vsync.” Once you disable these settings, your monitor and game will not sync their refresh rate and game rate reducing controller input lag.

Now you know how to connect your wired Xbox controller to your PC, for sure you want to get a controller for your PC already. But before making that decision whether to go for a wired controller, be sure to know the difference between the two types of devices.

You need to understand this because I dont want you to go back to the mall after going home as I did. I accidentally bought a wireless Xbox controller when I thought it was the wired version.

As a result, since I did not expect that wireless controllers need an adapter for it to work, I went back to the mall right away to buy one.

To help you save money, as well as a bit of time from going back to the mall, take note that the two versions have a slight difference.

Wired controllers have the same plastic material as the bumper at the guide buttons location. It also has a seam located between the guide button and the face area of the controller.

A wireless or Bluetooth controller has the same plastic material as the face area. However, it does not have any seams, unlike the wired version.

Another known version of the Bluetooth controller, and probably the best version, has a USB-C port at the top with a rectangle capture button near the menu button. This version is both for wired and wireless connection.

Indicators Which Show If The Device Works On Pc

To determine which one works, all you have to do is to test out the device itself. Here are the indicators which show that your controller finally works on the PC:

Wired Controllers

The only way for you to find out if the wired controllers work on the PC is once Windows is done installing its driver.

Accessories available to connect to a computer such as a USC flash drive or the Xbox controller have drivers for the PC to understand the functionality of the accessories.

These drivers can be automatically installed on your PC once you plug in the actual device.

Once the PC starts installing the wired controller, it means the device is almost ready to be used. The real sign that it works on your PC is when the installation completion message comes out of your PC after a few seconds of minutes.

In the future, you only need to plug in the device every time you want to use it.

Wireless Controllers

The wireless controllers have different indicators which prove that it is connected to a PC already. But these indicators will show up depending on the method that you have done so far.

Because of this, I categorized the indicators depending on the following methods used for wireless connection:

Wireless Adapter

The LED light of the Xbox controller and its adapter will both blink for a while. Once it goes solid, that means you are finally connected to the PC using your wireless adapter.

How Well Do You Xbox Controllers Work Over Bluetooth

The last console I had was a ps3, so I felt more comfortable getting a DS4 when I was picking up a controller for my pc. I’ve been using it for a few years now mostly with success, but with various issues. I use ds4windows to get it to connect .

Lately it’s been having even more issues though and every single time I turn off the controller I have to repair the bluetooth when I turn it back on. Also, despite numerous attempts I couldn’t get Bloodstained to recognize it whatsoever.

I hear the xbox controller is fairly well supported, but I’m wondering if that is mostly for wired play, or if people who use only bluetooth find it as reliable also? Or if other people using a ds4 have had less issues than me? I know steam has some more advanced options for ds4 as of last year, but a few of the main games I use a controller on have been outside of steam.
