How To Control Audio Without The Adapter

If you don’t have inline volume controls, you’ll have to control the audio on the console directly. It’s not difficult, although, with the latest update to the Xbox One dashboard, the audio controls are a little more hidden. Follow these steps:

You’ll now have options for enabling and disabling any microphone attached, adjusting volume, mic monitoring, and the mix of game audio to party chat.

Plugging And Unplugging The Headset

This is something most of you have tried already. Its still worth mentioning though. You can forget the simple solution sometimes.

Try plugging and unplugging the headset and see if that works. You can do this several times if you like. Make sure the jack goes in properly and something isnt in the way.

If You Have An Xbox Wireless

It will not long to explain how to connect a headset with Xbox Wireless capabilities to an Xbox One console. Simply find the pairing button on the headset and once it’s in pairing mode, press the pair button on the Xbox console itself. It’s the same as connecting a new controller to the console. Unless something bizarre happens, it should only take a few seconds.

For the most part, this build shares the same approach as our first one. The key difference is the substitution of Pioneers 4K UHD Blu-ray drive. The swap puts the optical drives specs in line with the Xbox One X, and it also makes this build quite a bit more expensive by comparison.

Pioneer

For the moment, you cant get around this painful jump in cost. The cheapest compatible processor is a $183 Kaby Lake Core i5-7400, and because only a few motherboards support the Draconian DRM specifications for 4K UHD Blu-ray disc playback, the lowest-cost option is $154. Moreover, Pioneer currently has the only option for a 4K UHD Blu-Ray drive. The short of it is that you have few options for components if you go this route.

Build summary

This upgraded rig nails the Xbox One Xs main features: It should run games in 4K at a minimum of 30 fps on a Medium graphics setting, support HDR, and play 4K UHD optical discs.

Does The Xbox One Have Bluetooth

Unfortunately, the Xbox One does not support direct Bluetooth pairing. I dont know why that is, Microsoft avoids answering that question. Of course, there must be a reason for this, but that doesnt interest us right now.

You can only directly connect wired headsets. I wouldnt say that youre directly connecting the headset but Microsoft says it is so.

In order to connect the wired headset, you must use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. This is a USB connection device that you insert into your Xbox Wireless Controller.

The Xbox One Headset Adapter has a 3.5 mm plug where youll be inserting the headset. Thats why I said its not exactly a direct connection. If you have headphones with a USB connection, you wont need the Adapter.

Dont lose hope though, there is a way to use your Bluetooth headset with Xbox One. Of course, Microsoft thought about it and didnt completely eliminate Bluetooth connection.

On paper, the AMD FX-8300 in Build #1 makes an Xbox One X PC clone seem very tidy: Its an eight-core CPU, which sounds the same as as the eight-core processor in Microsofts current-gen consoles.

Downsides To This Method

This method is more of a back door way to connect Bluetooth headphones to your Xbox One. Youll want to make sure your tablet or device is plugged into a charger as this will kill the battery. Also, if youre using your primary phone, you wont be able to use it to scroll through social media between loading screens.

You will not be able to chat using this method. Think of this as a pure audio output. If youre looking to kick back and play by yourself, this method will work. If youre looking to chat with friends, youll need a hard-wired headset or Microsoft compatible headset.

How To Connect Bluetooth Headsets To Xbox One Using Optical

There is a third way to get Bluetooth on your Xbox: using a Bluetooth adapter that supports digital optical connections. This connection is typically for hooking up sound bars, but you can also use it to bring Bluetooth to your Xbox.

This wont apply to every transmitter but, alongside a 3.5mm port, some also have a digital optical cable. And at the back of your Xbox One, youll find a S/PDIF optical audio out port.

• Connect your Bluetooth transmitters digital optical to the S/PDIF port to the rear of the Xbox.
• Switch transmitter mode from 3.5mm to S/PDIF if your device supports it.
• Connect your headphones to the transmitter via Bluetooth.

Using digital optical out isnt perfect, though. Because its output-only, you wont be able to chat to your friends on Xbox One.

If youre gaming on the Xbox Series X|S, unfortunately the digital output connection is missing from the console, with Xbox head Phil Spencer all but saying not enough people used the port to warrant spending money on it.

However, most modern TVs also have an optical port, so you can always connect the transmitter that way.

Connect Bluetooth To Your Xbox Controller

As an alternative to the method above, you can connect your non-Microsoft wireless headset directly to your Xbox controller. To do so, you will have to buy a Bluetooth transmitter equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack, which is the size of the standard AUX cord.

Not all Xbox Controllers come with a 3.5mm input. New models should, but some older models do not. Check underneath the joysticks to determine if you need another adapter. If its time to buy a new controller because your old one is experiencing stick drift, make sure to get one with a 3.5mm input.

Once all the necessary adapters are connected and working, all youll have to do is press the necessary pairing buttons to connect your Bluetooth headphones. This setup can be a little ridiculous, especially if youre forced to connect multiple adapters.
