Does Xbox One Have To Lay Flat
Important The original Xbox One console can only be placed horizontally. All Xbox consoles are designed to ventilate air to keep them at an optimal temperature during use. Your console may feel hot around the vents, but this is normal. Hot air is being ventilated from the console to cool the interior.
Does Xbox Series X Work Horizontally And Vertically
While the Xbox Series X is often present in an upright position, embracing its almost monolithic silhouette, Microsoft has shown considerations for daily usage. It includes a design that functions vertically and horizontally, with no impact on functionality, based on the system’s orientation.
Unlike the earliest Xbox One console, designed only to sit horizontally, Xbox Series X supports two positions. The primary orientation is seen all over the marketing, with its towering vertical chassis and the Xbox-branded power button positioned at the top. It even features an integrated circular stand to support the device when stood tall.
But Microsoft has made considerations for using the device horizontally, ideal if tucked in media centers with less vertical headroom. It even has four tiny, rubberized feet hidden on the console’s right-hand edge. But you can’t remove the stand from the device it’s essential to keep airflow guaranteed and it sticks out from the right-hand side when laid flat.
The Xbox Series X boasts a vastly different form factor to past Xbox consoles, supporting what the company describes as its “Parallel Cooling Architecture.” It regulates heat with a single, large fan and high air output, funneling multiple air streams through the device. It also keeps Xbox Series X relatively quiet, improving overall acoustics compared to past Xbox One consoles. But this design works both ways, provided the main fan has room for ventilation.
Warning Don’t Stand Your Xbox One Vertically
80 per cent position Xbox 360 horizontally. Do you?
News
Microsoft has issued a warning to prospective Xbox One owners: don’t stand it up vertically!
Do so at your own risk, Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, told GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show.
“We don’t support vertical orientation do it at your own risk,” he warned.
Then, he clarified: “It wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.”
The Xbox 360 is perfectly happy positioned horizontally as it is vertically, of course. But according to Panello, only 20 per cent position their current-gen Xbox vertically.
“We found, interestingly enough, that 80 per cent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox horizontally,” he said.
I’m part of the 20 per cent, then. Are you?

Elm Game Console Stand For Xbox One S

It may not have the official seal of approval from Microsoft, but we still found this vertical stand for Xbox One S consoles to be a solid solution.
The cooling fans at the base mean you won’t have to deal with overheating problems, and it can also charge multiple devices at once thanks to the trio of USB ports.
It’s not particularly high-tech, but it does the job and adds in a neat bit of charging functionality.

Does Xbox Series S Work Horizontally And Vertically
The Xbox Series S dons the same versatility as Xbox Series X, with vertical and horizontal orientation supported. The design takes cues from its predecessor, Xbox One S, with a single large fan within a traditional console form factor. It securely sits both ways, with tiny, rubberized feet on the underside for added protection. While an uneven chassis saw vertical stands become one of the best Xbox One accessories, they’re no longer required here.
While both viable, our early time with Xbox Series S highlighted how the console may better suit horizontal positioning. Unlike the firm base with Xbox Series X, this console sits tall, with little surface area to keep it steady. The slender design can make it easier to topple, which is worth considering if there’s a chance of falling. You’ll probably be fine, but this slightly more precarious positioning is worth keeping in mind when you’re figuring out your entertainment setup.
Xbox Series S doesn’t use the same vertical cooling system as Xbox Series X, so you’re looking at one bold black fan with side vents to draw air. It’s key to leave room around the console from all angles, especially keeping that primary vent clear. And as an all-digital device, you don’t need to worry about that disc drive, either.

Microsoft: Turn The Xbox One Vertical Do So ‘at Your Own Risk’
The upcoming Xbox One wants to keep its feet flat on the ground. It wasn’t built to be upended, an Xbox exec warns.
Microsoft has a warning to gamers: don’t turn the Xbox One on its side.
Speaking to CNET sister site GameSpot in an interview published Thursday, Microsoft’s senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, Albert Panello, said that the $449 Xbox One should not be placed vertically because it has a slot-loading drive.
“We don’t support vertical orientation do it at your own risk,” he said. “It wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.”
The admission is somewhat odd. Both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 come with slot-loading drives, and they support both vertical and horizontal orientations. The Xbox 360 came with a tray drive, but was allowed to be placed vertically. Vertical orientation is important for some gamers who want to save space in their home entertainment furniture and stack multiple consoles alongside each other.
But perhaps it won’t be an issue for most gamers, since they seem to be a level-headed bunch: “We found,” said Panello, “that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox 360 horizontally.”
The Xbox One is scheduled to arrive in stores on November 22.
Can The Series X Stand On Its Side Or Does It Need To Constantly Stand Up Straight

When you look to buy something, you want to make sure that it fits just right in the home, whether if thats in the front room, the bedroom or even just the bathroom.
When it comes to the next-gen consoles, its important where it needs to go, and if its acceptable to the partner, otherwise you may be seeing it in CEX for sale not long after.
After the unveil of the PS5 console, its clear that its meant to be stood up, especially as its height rivals many PC towers and small trees.
But when it comes to the Xbox Series X, people have wondered whether the Series X can lay on its side or stand up as shown in the promo images.

Depends on what version of the Xbox you have, the Original Xbox was never designed to be placed vertically.
The S and X models, there’s a stand you can purchase specifically designed to allow them to be placed vertically.

The Original Xbox One
First released in 2014 as Microsofts entry for the eighth console generation, the original Xbox One remains a powerful piece of kit.
However, since the introduction of the One S in 2016, the original console is becoming harder to find as retailers run through their stock. Interestingly, although the original console has largely been replaced, youre still likely to get a better deal on a One S.
- Can the original One do anything the One S cant? – In a word, no. Theres no real reason to buy an original One unless you find an exceptional deal. With stock running low of the original, thats becoming increasingly unlikely.
- Should I upgrade my One to a One S?– This is a tough one. While an improvement in multiple departments, the One S isnt so much of an leap forward that it necessitates upgrading. Both systems play the same games, so you wont miss out there. If you upgraded to an HDR TV and wanted to enjoy the difference it makes to your graphics, it would perhaps justify upgrading to a One S.

So Will The Xbox Series X Work If You Lay It On Its Side
Short Answer: Yes
Like its predecessors, the Xbox Series X was made with the intention of being able to lay it on its side. However, there may be a couple of minor inconveniences.
When the console is set vertically, there is a round stand attached to the bottom to allow for better airflow and cooling to the vent located there. This stand is not removable , and may be a sort of eyesore when the console sits horizontally. While it is not too distracting, it can throw off the symmetry of the console slightly. Additionally, the Xbox symbol on the front of the console is oriented for vertical positioning.
These arent necessarily huge issues, but it seems clear that the Xbox was designed with vertical positioning in mind. That being said, theres absolutely nothing wrong with laying the console on its side. Go ahead, be a rebel. Stick it to the man!

Is It Safe To Stand Up An Xbox One S
The Xbox One S is an entirely different story.
This is a console that was designed from the ground up to be placed in a vertical position, whether you’re using it digitally or with discs. The only downside is that you need to buy a vertical stand that comes separately from the console. The stand is just a piece of plastic designed to give the lower side a larger footprint. Microsoft sells its own stand for around $15, but you can buy cheaper ones from third-parties that work just as well.
Beyond the vertical stand, you can also pick up an Xbox One S wall mount kit for around $30 from companies like HideIt. This allows you to actually attach your Xbox One S to the wall while leaving plenty of space for ventilation. If you want to keep your play area as tidy as possible, this could be a great option if you’re willing to do some drilling. Executive Editor Daniel Rubino reviewed a HideIt wall mount in the past and found it to be remarkable.
