Can You Lay The Xbox Series X Down Flat
The first thing I wanted to say is the design works vertical or horizontal, just like the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, said Xboss Phil Spencer to GameSpot. We think that its not our job to dictate the orientation of our console in your home. That is up to you.
The Xbox 360 was another system that worked both ways, though later on it was revealed that sitting it straight up could do more harm than good with the system’s fan. Luckily, Spencer and the team had this design question in mind while developing this particular console, making it easy to use it anyway a player sees fit, which is a nice option to have when looking to upgrade that gaming setup.
He also recently opened up about the specs of the new system to the site. The overall gist is that the Xbox Series X will hit 12 teraFLOPS, give or take, with AMD leading the charge for the new system’s GPU/CPU. Added to that is ray tracing for stunning levels of realism and an 8K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. Regarding the CPU side of the new system:
With ultra-fast storage and a general setup meant to rival that of high-end gaming PCs, the Series X aims to be much more than just a console. “We’ve invested in NVMe solid-state drives and we’re also giving developers a lot of new capabilities, and on top of that, try to virtually eliminate load times.”
At this time, we don’t have a release date yet for the Xbox Series X but we do know that it is slated for the holiday season in 2020. Are you excited?
Xbox Series X Can Lay On Its Side But It’s Gonna Look Weird
You’ll be able to lay your Xbox Series X down flat but the attached stand might mess with your aesthetic.
Microsoft has pushed the upright, chonky obelisk orientation of Xbox Series X in all of its marketing materials, however it has previously confirmed that the console will work on its side as well. Sounds like the best of both worlds, but when Microsoft sent out dummy units for demonstration purposes, one caveat to that idealized form quickly became apparent: there’s a little circular stand on the “bottom” of the console, and it is not removable.
IGN executive editor Ryan McCaffrey confirmed with Microsoft that the plastic stand is permanently attached to the bottom of the console. I guess you probably could remove it with some effort, but it might mess up the grill on the bottom of the console and it would definitely void your warranty.
One of the most common questions I’ve gotten is if the round stand on the bottom of the Series X is removable, in the event you choose to lay it on its side. I couldn’t find a way to take it off, and I just confirmed with Microsoft that it is indeed not removable. So just FYI!
For what it’s worth, the power button’s Xbox logo is also oriented to be upright when the console is standing vertically. So Microsoft is definitely sending some signals that this thing would really look best if you were to just keep it vertical, please.
What To Look For In An Xbox Game
What makes Xbox stand out is the lateral availability of games across systems. With the newest blockbuster Halo Infinite, for example, players using an Xbox One or Xbox Series console are able to play together. In most instances, just popping in a disc will fire up the right version of the game, and the new Smart Delivery feature pushes performance to the best it can be for the console the game is installed on. Of course, there are some outliers and many weird cases that are outlined on this FAQ, but for the most part games with an Xbox label will work on just about any Xbox One or Series console. Even some original classic Xbox and Xbox 360 games will work on modern hardware with a quick patch download.
Most of these titles do have Xbox Series X or Series S enhancements, typically resulting in crisp 4K images. Overall, the Xbox family of systems is an excellent choice for players who enjoy a lot of mainstream games, but Game Pass users often discover amazing indie-developed games.

2 Answers. Unless you have modified your console to replace its built-in HDD with some sort of RAM disk, removing power wont affect the data stored inside, even over extended period of time. However, if a game is currently running and you havent saved your progress before removing power, that progress will be lost.

The Xbox Series X Design
Now that we have gone over what is inside, let us chat about what is happening on the outside. This current next-gen console launches brought about designs which are quite different than those before. Microsofts Xbox Series S does offer a more traditional console look to it, but the Xbox Series X, in its all matte black finish, is decidedly untraditional.
First, the Xbox Series X is designed to ideally be placed upright, as in standing vertically. Now, to be sure, there are rubber feet which allow the console to sit horizontally, however there are small tells that this isnt Microsofts preferred position, and as such the console looks a bit odd on its side. The Xbox icon on the power button would be rotated if placed on its side, much like the Xbox Series S power button is designed for a horizontal arrangement. The Series X dimensions feel a bit off when the console is laid horizontally, with it being quite tall, but very shallow looking. There is no one saying it wont work on its side, and Microsoft including rubber feet on the console means that they also have no issues with it being kept horizontally, but from a pure aesthetics view, it looks a bit more proper when standing up.
The aesthetics are very subdued, with not a lot of defining features of the design when looking from the front, other than the slot-loading UHD Blu-Ray drive. The power button is on the left, and lights up in use, but there are no flashy lights otherwise.
Does Xbox Series S Work Horizontally And Vertically
The Xbox Series S dons the same versatility as Xbox Series X, with vertical and horizontal orientation supported. The design takes cues from its predecessor, Xbox One S, with a single large fan within a traditional console form factor. It securely sits both ways, with tiny, rubberized feet on the underside for added protection. While an uneven chassis saw vertical stands become one of the best Xbox One accessories, they’re no longer required here.
While both viable, our early time with Xbox Series S highlighted how the console may better suit horizontal positioning. Unlike the firm base with Xbox Series X, this console sits tall, with little surface area to keep it steady. The slender design can make it easier to topple, which is worth considering if there’s a chance of falling. You’ll probably be fine, but this slightly more precarious positioning is worth keeping in mind when you’re figuring out your entertainment setup.
Xbox Series S doesn’t use the same vertical cooling system as Xbox Series X, so you’re looking at one bold black fan with side vents to draw air. It’s key to leave room around the console from all angles, especially keeping that primary vent clear. And as an all-digital device, you don’t need to worry about that disc drive, either.

How Does A Usb Microphone Work
Due to their easy use, USB microphones are quite popular among online streamers especially gamers.
All you just have to do is to plug in your microphone in the USB port of your device and your good to go without any hassle that you usually have to make with ordinary mics in getting to connect them with your devices.
The converter that is integrated inside the USB mic converts the analogue signals into digital signals. The USB mic has an in-built audio interference. There are three USB microphone transducers types.
One is the condenser and the other two are ribbon and dynamic. Most people choose condenser mics because of their sensitivity and cardioid polar pattern. All these three transducers have their specific features.
But what every type is they all give a digital output since they all have digital converters inserted inside.
Powera Console Stand For Xbox One S
While Microsoft doesn’t recommend you placing older models of the Xbox One on their side, PowerA’s officially licensed stand is ideal for owners of the One S.
It’s fairly no-frills, but, when the function is this basic, less is very much more. It feels very sturdy when locked in place, and an accidental bump won’t see it topple.
It also features clever little ventilation holes for the side of your console, meaning you shouldn’t experience overheating issues.

Can You Stand The Xbox One Up On Its Side
- James FalconerCan you stand the Xbox One up on its side?
Maybe a silly question here but can the Xbox One stand up on its side? I like the look of it as Ive seen it flat on a surface, but with many other consoles I do like to stand them up on the side. Will that harshly effect or do any damage because of heat issues?
- 03-19-2017, 10:39 PMkareljRe: Can you stand the Xbox One up on its side?
Standing the console on its side is not a problem. I have the GOW 2TB One S and it came with a basic stand. The stand itself is cheap but it gets the job done. No cooling vents are blocked and functionality is not hampered in any way.

@karelj ok cool. Thought I had read somewhere that placing it on its side was an issue for cooling purposes!

Warning Don’t Stand Your Xbox One Vertically
80 per cent position Xbox 360 horizontally. Do you?
Microsoft has issued a warning to prospective Xbox One owners: don’t stand it up vertically!
Do so at your own risk, Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, told GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show.
“We don’t support vertical orientation do it at your own risk,” he warned.
Then, he clarified: “It wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.”
The Xbox 360 is perfectly happy positioned horizontally as it is vertically, of course. But according to Panello, only 20 per cent position their current-gen Xbox vertically.
“We found, interestingly enough, that 80 per cent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox horizontally,” he said.
I’m part of the 20 per cent, then. Are you?

Oivo Vertical Cooling Stand For Xbox One
For those who want more than just a vertical stand for their Xbox One, Oivo has a multifunctional unit that should appease.
It can accommodate and keep cool all three versions of the Xbox One, thanks to the included rails, with a controller charging station, storage for 12 games and a USB hub all packed in, too.
There’s plenty going on here, and we found it to be a really handy way to save some space on our cramped gaming desk setup.
What Does Instant On Do Xbox One
Instant-on power mode starts up the Xbox One in just 2 seconds and also lets automatic updates occur. The Xbox Ones energy-saving mode requires you to press the Xbox button to power on the console and can take up to 45 seconds to start up. It also wont allow updates to download and install automatically.

Is It Safe To Stand Up An Xbox One S
The Xbox One S is an entirely different story.
This is a console that was designed from the ground up to be placed in a vertical position, whether you’re using it digitally or with discs. The only downside is that you need to buy a vertical stand that comes separately from the console. The stand is just a piece of plastic designed to give the lower side a larger footprint. Microsoft sells its own stand for around $15, but you can buy cheaper ones from third-parties that work just as well.
Beyond the vertical stand, you can also pick up an Xbox One S wall mount kit for around $30 from companies like HideIt. This allows you to actually attach your Xbox One S to the wall while leaving plenty of space for ventilation. If you want to keep your play area as tidy as possible, this could be a great option if you’re willing to do some drilling. Executive Editor Daniel Rubino reviewed a HideIt wall mount in the past and found it to be remarkable.
What Are The Advantages Of A Vertical Stand
The biggest reason why a vertical stand is advantageous to anyone that owns an Xbox One X is for the added stability it gives to the base of the console.
Though the Xbox One X can stand on itself vertically without added support, it’s entirely possible that you or someone else in your household might accidentally knock it over. Depending on what your setup looks like, a fall could seriously damage your Xbox One X, and since it costs $500, that’s not exactly cheap to replace or repair. In addition, the stand looks nice, which is a great benefit if you like to display your gaming setup fashionably.

How To Use A Usb Microphone On An Xbox One
Now that you know all the necessary things about a USB microphone ad an Xbox one let us move towards the main topic which is how can you use a USB microphone with your Xbox one.
Usually, the wireless controller of the Xbox one comes with a USB port. This USB port is approximately 3.5 mm in size. This means that it is compatible with any USB mic that has a USB port or jack 3.5 mm. Any standard-size USB mic will easily get connected with the Xbox One gaming console.
There are several ways how you can connect your USB mic with the Xbox. The most common one is to go to the party chat option on the controllers and all you have to do is to switch it from game chart to party chart and it will allow you to speak once you have plugged in your mic with the Xbox.
You can also go without using the party chat option. Just plug in your microphone inside the jack or port of your X box and you are good to go.
Just start speaking and you dont have to do anything extra that you might have to do while connecting the X box to an ordinary mic. But we are talking about USB mics here.

Yes The Xbox Series X Can Be Used Horizontally As Well As Vertically
9000 hours in MS Paint reveals what a horizontal Xbox Series X might look like
Microsoft unveiled the next-gen Xbox dubbed the “Xbox Series X” during The Game Awards, and I’ve already seen a few interesting comments about the design.
The console looks monolithic in its configuration, with air vents across the top. Microsoft noted in its blog about the console that this design revolves around keeping the system as quiet as possible while being able to cram it with beefy next-gen specs, which we’ve heard could be anywhere up to 12TF.
One thing many people have been asking me already is, can I use this vertically, as well as horizontally? The answer is yes!
From the blog post on the Xbox Series X, Microsoft elaborated a bit further on the design .
Its industrial design enables us to deliver four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the most quiet and efficient way, something that is critically important in delivering truly immersive gameplay. We also designed Xbox Series X to support both vertical and horizontal orientation. It’s bold and unique, very much like our fans around the world and the team of collaborators and innovators who built it.
We don’t have full specifications on the size and orientation just yet, but you can get a decent idea on how thick it is from the next-gen Xbox controller .
The Xbox Series X launches in the holiday season of 2020, around a year from now. And we can’t wait.
