Unlike the Wii, PS2, and PS3 the Xbox 360 does not have disc stabilizers in its disc drive. You CAN stand it up if you want but you are at more of a risk of the console moving around and scratching your game then if you just layed it down.

Glistco Horizontal Stand For Xbox One X

Not every stand has to offer vertical support, and Glistco’s horizontal number is ideal for users who just require a bit of basic elevation.
With the four feet able to be snapped onto each corner of an Xbox One X console, it means users are easily able to stack multiple consoles or media players without hampering airflow.
It’s a basic solution, granted, but it actually really helps cramped desks look a bit more thought out – all while having practical benefits.

Microsoft: Don’t Stand Your Xbox One Up
Senior Xbox Director Albert Panello reveals that the Xbox One console won’t be offering vertical play when it launches this November. Here’s why.
Before you plug in your Xbox One power chord, pick up your controller, or play your very first game, you’ve already made the single biggest decision of your console’s lengthy life span. Regardless of the action on-screen, or your new promotional theme, the one aesthetic that rarely, if ever changes, is the orientation of your chosen console. Do you go horizontal or vertical?
That’s the question the engineers at Microsoft asked themselves while designing the upcoming Xbox One. This November’s followup to the ‘sit & stand’ Xbox 360, the 8th-gen juggernaut will only be able to play as a grounded, horizontal console. The reason, according to senior director of Xbox product management Albert Panello isn’t so much to do with economics, as it is with simple design decisions, or rather omissions.
Speaking at this years Tokyo Games Show, Panello told Gamespot:
“it wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both. “We don’t support vertical orientation do it at your own risk.”
The Xbox One launches on November 22nd 2013.

Is It Safe To Stand Xbox 360 Up
Microsoft has issued a warning to prospective Xbox One owners: dont stand it up vertically! Do so at your own risk, Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, told GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show. The Xbox 360 is perfectly happy positioned horizontally as it is vertically, of course.
Xbox Series X Series S Size And Dimensions
Microsoft has released official Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S dimensions, providing a clearer understanding of how each device stands in the real world, proving especially handy when sizing up your future console with your gaming setup.
The Xbox Series X measures 301mm x 151mm x 151mm, with its default vertical orientation convenient if standing beside your TV or atop a desk. But for those putting the console into an entertainment center or any environment with reduced overhead space, flipping the console sideways cuts its vertical height to half the size.
Clocking in at 60% of the Xbox Series X footprint, the Xbox Series S measures 275mm x 151mm x 64mm, closer to past consoles. The device is shorter than its most powerful system console in their respective orientations, ideal to ensure suitable ventilation in smaller storage spaces.

Can You Stand The Xbox One Up On Its Side
- James FalconerCan you stand the Xbox One up on its side?
Maybe a silly question here… but can the Xbox One stand up on its side? I like the look of it as I’ve seen it flat on a surface, but with many other consoles I do like to stand them up on the side. Will that harshly effect or do any damage because of heat issues?
- 03-19-2017, 10:39 PMkareljRe: Can you stand the Xbox One up on its side?
Standing the console on its side is not a problem. I have the GOW 2TB One S and it came with a basic stand. The stand itself is cheap but it gets the job done. No cooling vents are blocked and functionality is not hampered in any way.

@karelj – ok cool. Thought I had read somewhere that placing it on its side was an issue for cooling purposes!

Why Can’t You Remove The Xbox Series X Stand
The Xbox Series X stand is a circle attached to the console at the bottom. It’s there for a reason, but gamers might not have noticed why it’s there and more importantly, why it can’t be removed.
The Xbox Series X has a really nice website that shows some of the internals of the console. We didn’t get a 360 degree view of the system when it was revealed , but one video shows us why the stand is there in the first place:
Take a look at the video for yourself and you’ll likely understand why the Xbox Series X stand is there:
If it isn’t entirely clear, the above video shows the airflow of the Xbox Series X case. Air is sucked into the console from the bottom, passes over the internal components, and is vented out from the top.
The console’s underside shows that it is entirely flat. The circular stand raises it ever so slightly, so much so that it is nearly imperceptible when the console is standing vertically. If this stand were not there, the air intake holes on the underside would be obstructed and the Xbox Series X could potentially overheat.
So, why can’t you remove the stand? Microsoft is likely concerned that gamers will take the stand off, forget to replace it , and place the console vertically. That would partially or entirely block the air intake fan and risk overheating the console.

Can You Stand A Ps4 On Its Side
Remember, when you put the PS4 in a vertical position, you are taking one in-take vent out since you have to put a stand on its side to make your PS4 more secure. When this happens, you are only allowing one in-take vent to get as much cold air from the outside to the inside, making your console run a little warmer.

The Xbox Series X Design

Now that we have gone over what is inside, let us chat about what is happening on the outside. This current next-gen console launches brought about designs which are quite different than those before. Microsofts Xbox Series S does offer a more traditional console look to it, but the Xbox Series X, in its all matte black finish, is decidedly untraditional.
First, the Xbox Series X is designed to ideally be placed upright, as in standing vertically. Now, to be sure, there are rubber feet which allow the console to sit horizontally, however there are small tells that this isn’t Microsoft’s preferred position, and as such the console looks a bit odd on its side. The Xbox icon on the power button would be rotated if placed on its side, much like the Xbox Series S power button is designed for a horizontal arrangement. The Series X dimensions feel a bit off when the console is laid horizontally, with it being quite tall, but very shallow looking. There is no one saying it wont work on its side, and Microsoft including rubber feet on the console means that they also have no issues with it being kept horizontally, but from a pure aesthetics view, it looks a bit more proper when standing up.
The aesthetics are very subdued, with not a lot of defining features of the design when looking from the front, other than the slot-loading UHD Blu-Ray drive. The power button is on the left, and lights up in use, but there are no flashy lights otherwise.

Is It Ok To Put Your Xbox One On Its Side
While the Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Xbox 360 consoles can be placed either horizontally or vertically, the horizontal position offers the most stability. Make sure you use only the stand designed for your Xbox, which helps console stability and operation. Without the stand, vertical positioning blocks a cooling vent.
Xbox Series X Controller Subtly Updated
For this generation, Sony has significantly updated their controller, but Microsoft took the safer approach. Microsofts Xbox team seems very serious about blurring the generational lines, and introducing a new controller, especially when the existing one was so well received, may have alienated some fans. Also, it means all Xbox One controllers will work with the new system, which is great as people may have purchased custom controllers, or one of the Elite controllers.
The new controller features the standard Xbox Wi-Fi Direct connection that has been around since Xbox One, although with Dynamic Latency Input, which polls the controller more often for reduced lag. Microsoft added Bluetooth support to the Xbox One controller as a mid-cycle refresh, and for the new generation they are expanding that to include Bluetooth Low Energy, meaning it will be compatible with more devices, and be easier to pair.
Physically, all the changes to the controller are very subtle. The most noticeable change is that there is now a new share button located right in the middle of the controller. When Xbox One launched, sharing was expected to be done via Kinect, but as that system died a painful death, it was replaced by being able to share by pressing the Xbox button, then sharing. It was a somewhat painful process. The new share button allows for screenshots by tapping the button, or video clips by holding the button.

Does Xbox Series X Work Horizontally And Vertically
While the Xbox Series X is often present in an upright position, embracing its almost monolithic silhouette, Microsoft has shown considerations for daily usage. It includes a design that functions vertically and horizontally, with no impact on functionality, based on the system’s orientation.
Unlike the earliest Xbox One console, designed only to sit horizontally, Xbox Series X supports two positions. The primary orientation is seen all over the marketing, with its towering vertical chassis and the Xbox-branded power button positioned at the top. It even features an integrated circular stand to support the device when stood tall.
But Microsoft has made considerations for using the device horizontally, ideal if tucked in media centers with less vertical headroom. It even has four tiny rubberized feet hidden on the console’s right-hand edge. But you can’t remove the stand from the device it’s essential to keep airflow guaranteed and it sticks out from the right-hand side when laid flat.
The Xbox Series X’s disc drive that works safely in both orientations. This was a fundamental limitation of the original Xbox One’s slot-loading drive but has been fixed since Xbox One S.
Can The Series X Stand On Its Side Or Does It Need To Constantly Stand Up Straight
When you look to buy something, you want to make sure that it fits just right in the home, whether if thats in the front room, the bedroom or even just the bathroom.
When it comes to the next-gen consoles, its important where it needs to go, and if its acceptable to the partner, otherwise you may be seeing it in CEX for sale not long after.
After the unveil of the PS5 console, its clear that its meant to be stood up, especially as its height rivals many PC towers and small trees.
But when it comes to the Xbox Series X, people have wondered whether the Series X can lay on its side or stand up as shown in the promo images.

Is It Always Safe To Stand Up An Xbox One Console
It’s a common question: Is it really safe to stand your Xbox One vertically? Consoles are generally a rectangular slab, most often designed to sit horizontally for whatever reason. Perhaps it’s because disc trays are easier to design when they’re flat. After all, there’s no need for additional engineering to make discs safe to use on a vertical angle. If you use your original Xbox One in a vertical position, it can cause some serious problems. But is that always the case?
No way, no how.
If you want to use a vertical console to save space or otherwise, here are a few scenarios when you can safely stand your Xbox up.
