Video Game Streaming How Does It Work
We explain it all…
An app launched on Android in 2020. The iOS version will run through a browser app, such as Safari, Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
According to Microsoft’s blog post, more Games Pass Ultimate subscribers will be invited to the beta as the technology is developed.
To take part, you’ll need a compatible Bluetooth or USB-connected controller to start playing.
You can also play using custom touch controls. Around 50 of the 100-game library currently support touch controls.
Connection Woes You May Encounter
Some routers automatically swap devices from 2.4GHz to 5GHz from time to time. If you find your connection regularly lags or judders while playing, it might be worth seeing if you can connect to 5GHz only.
Be aware that some routers combine the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels into one. So, you may have to manually enter your router settings, split the channels, and rename them, in order to connect to 5GHz.
Even on the worlds best connections though, the nature of streaming means that some games will stutter no matter what you do. Something like Forza or the Gears of War series, which both require fast reactions from the player, will struggle compared to a slower strategy title such as Two Point Hospital or Wasteland 3.
There is currently no way to download titles for offline play and no plans to add this feature. If you were hoping to take some Xbox games on a long road trip or flight, youre out of luck, unfortunately.

How To Play Xbox Games On Android
Do take note that you will need to have an Android device that is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or later, and your device will also need to have Bluetooth 4.0 or newer. As for internet connectivity, obviously connecting to WiFi would be ideal, but if youre on the go, you should have at least 10Mbps of download speeds in order to have a good experience. Anything less and you could run into issues.
Keep in mind you can also connect an Xbox controlled to your Android smartphone for a more immersive gaming experience. If you dont already have one, our recommended picks are below.
How To Configure Your Xbox One For Remote Game Downloads
This will only work if your Xbox One is suspended and set to automatically downloaded game updates and stay in Instant-on mode. These are the default settings, so everything should just work. However, if youve modified these settings in the past, you may need to re-enable them.
If youre away from your Xbox One at the moment, feel free to skip this section and just try using the app or website to download a game. It will work if you havent modified these default settings in the past.
First, head to Settings > All Settings > System > Updates. Ensure the Keep my games & apps up to date setting is enabled here. If it isnt, your Xbox One wont download new games or updates automatically.
Second, head to Settings > All Settings > Power & startup > Power mode & startup. Ensure your Xbox One is set to Instant-on power mode. This means the Xbox One will go into a sort of sleep mode where some functions remain active, including background downloads of games and updates. Dont set it to Energy-saving mode or it will shut down completely, and you wont be able to use the remote game download feature.
You should also ensure that youve signed into the Xbox One with the Microsoft account you plan on using on your phone. You can check this from Settings > All Settings > Sign-in, security & passkey.

Screen size can also make a big differenceeverything will be much easier to see on the 6.9-inch screen of a Samsung S20 Ultra than the 2.45-inch Unihertz Jelly Pros tiny display.

How To Download The Xbox App And Use Remote Play
The Xbox App is a brilliant companion for the Xbox ecosystem. It’s completely free and gives you the freedom to manage your console without being tied to a TV.
After downloading from the App Store, log into your account and you’ll have full access to everything the app offers.
Once you’re in the app, head to the My Library tab , then select Consoles. This will show you any Xbox One or Series S/X consoles you’re logged in to. Choose which one you want to use, then hit Remote Play. Your Xbox will then start up and begin streaming to your device.
From here, you can choose whichever installed game you want to play, delete and install other titles, browse the store, and do anything you’d normally do when using your Xbox on the TV.
When you’re finished, hold the Xbox button on your pad until the power options pop up, and select Turn console off or End remote play.
You Can Now Play Xbox Games On Your Iphone And Ipad
Microsoft’s update to its Xbox app lets you can stream games from your console to your iPhone or iPad. However, it’s not quite Project xCloud.
A screenshot of the Xbox dashboard taken from my iPhone.
With the Xbox Series X around the corner, Microsoft has updated its iOS Xbox app. With the update comes a big new feature in remote play that lets you stream games from your Xbox One to your iPhone or iPad. Good timing too, with four new iPhones about to go on sale.
First, to temper your excitement, this is not Project xCloud. That service lets you play games on Android phones from the cloud, while this remote play function instead casts games from your Xbox One to your phone. Basically, you’ll still need to be in your house to use remote play.

To use remote play, you’ll need a solid internet connection and a Bluetooth controller for your iPhone/iPad. Microsoft isn’t first to let you stream its games onto iOS, with Sony’s Remote Play moving to iPhones and iPads last year.
Still, it’s a notable step toward Microsoft’s cloud-based future for the Xbox platform. While Sony is focusing on piling up exclusives for the PlayStation, like the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man: Miles Morales games, Microsoft is focusing on Game Pass and Project xCloud. The former is a Netflix-esque service that lets you play hundreds of games for a $10 a month, while the latter lets you stream Xbox and PC games from the cloud on your Android devices.

How To Play Xbox Games On Your Phone With Microsoft Xcloud
Stream Xbox games directly to your phone with Microsoft’s xCloud game-streaming service. Here’s what you need to get started and how to use the service.
The Xbox Series X and S are here, but if you’d rather not spend several hundred dollars on a next-gen console, Microsoft’s xCloud game-streaming service brings top titles to your mobile device, provided you have a robust internet connection. It’s easy to use, but you’ll need a few things before you get started.
Sharing Screenshots And Videos
Depending on your settings, and screenshots and videos you capture upload automatically to the cloud and will appear within the app. You can then choose to download them to your phone or share them via your choice of app.
Taking and sharing screenshots with your Xbox Series X is a great way to immortalize those epic moments and weird glitches.

Why Wont My Xbox Play Anywhere
Check your cable modem or ISP Sometimes the Xbox Play Anywhere may not work because of a problem with your cable modem, or with your Internet Service Provider. If other games or apps are not working, restart your router, then check network connection issues in Windows 10 for additional troubleshooting information.
Stream Xbox Games To Your Phone Or Tablet
For on-the-go Xbox gaming, download the Xbox app for your Android or iOS device, sign in, and connect a controller to your phone. An Xbox One controller will do nicely, especially paired with a foldable clip, though you can also use mobile controllers designed for iPhones, iPads, and Android devices like the Gamevice.
From the Xbox app on your phone or tablet, tap the Connection icon in the upper-right cornerit’s the one that looks like an Xbox with radio waves coming out of it . Tap the console in question, then choose Remote Play on This Device to start a remote session. Remember, the closer you are to the router, the better your experience will be over Wi-Fi.
Note that the Series X may have one or two quirks at this time as well, though in my experience it can vary from game to game. Forza Horizon 4, for example, currently has a bug when streaming from the the Series X where moving the joystick also presses the corresponding D-Pad button. Other users report audio crackling when streaming with the latest Xboxes.
While it is now physically possible to stream from your new console to a mobile device, it hasnt been perfected yet. Hopefully, Microsoft and developers will continue to improve the experience as they roll out more streaming support for the Series X and S.
