Minecraft Dungeons Guide: How To Enable Cross

Cross-play means it doesn’t matter what platform you prefer to play on.

Minecraft Dungeons is one of the best games to play with friends in online and local co-op, which is one of the many reasons it makes an appearance on our list of Best Games for Kids on Xbox, but since its launch Minecraft Dungeons has been criticized for its lack of cross-play support. The inability to play with friends on other platforms went against the platform agnostic nature of Minecraft, especially since Minecraft Dungeons launched on Xbox, Windows, Switch, and PS4. Now, after months of teasers and waiting, Minecraft Dungeons officially has cross-play support on all platforms.

However, cross-play can sometimes be a little bit of a mess, as each individual platform has its own way of doing things, and integrate Minecraft Dungeons’ cross-play support in different ways. In this Minecraft Dungeons cross-play guide, we’ll go over everything you need to know about enabling and using cross-play to play with your friends, no matter where they are.

Minecraft explores the dungeons.

Minecraft Dungeons is the next saga in Minecraft’s story, and Mojang Studios have knocked another one out of the park. Awesome co-op combat paired with powerful loot, all at a crazy affordable price? There’s not much more you could ask for in an epic dungeon crawling ARPG.

Hey Ty. Few facts here for ya.

1. Minecraft Xbox One version is NOT cross-play compatible. You will need to own Minecraft Bedrock as it is known as on the console to play with the Windows 10 version on PC.

2. I have successfully signed into my PC and my Xbox One and played on the same map with my account on the two devices at the same time. So yes it does work.

Is There Any Crossplay Between The Java And Bedrock Version

Unfortunately, that is the sole limitation of Minecrafts multiplayer. Both versions are coded differently. Therefore, it is not possible to initiate any form of crossplay between them.

That being said, you and your friends will need to download the same version of Minecraft in order to play with each other. Generally, if all your friends are on PC, we recommend sticking to the Java Edition. But, if you are in the mood for raytracing, the Java version does not seem to have that compatibility as of yet.

Otherwise, of course, you have no choice but to opt for the Bedrock Version.

If your friend is playing in their own hosted session, you can join them straight through the game. As long as youre friends via Microsoft, you can join their session by scrolling over to the Friends tab and looking under Joinable Cross-Platform Friends.

These sessions can only hold up to eight people at once.

If youre invited to join a session, a pop-up will appear that you can either accept or decline.

Is Minecraft Cross Platform In 2022

Yes indeed, Minecraft is among the few games out there that you can play cross platform. It can be played on a number of platforms and those from different platforms can enter the world notwithstanding where it being hosted.

This means you dont need to get the game on a particular platform just because your friend has it on that platform. The only catch is that just the Minecraft Bedrock Edition is cross platform between systems of different form factors. So remember to purchase the this version instead of the Java version.

iOs/Android

On your mobile device, open Google Play on Android or Apple Store on your apple phone. Type Minecraft in the search bar. If there is an update available, you will get an option to update or the play option.

PS4, Windows 10, & Xbox One

For PS4, Windows 10, & Xbox One, update the game just like the Minecraft Dungeons. Use the steps mentioned above in the article. Only Xbox One supports cross-platform play, and only Xbox One users need to create Xbox Live ID.

Thanks to Minecraft’s “Better Together” update, players hoping to play the world-building game together can do so, they’ll just need to make sure they’re all on Minecraft’s Bedrock version.

Minecraft’s Java edition, while still allowing cross-platform play, only allows it for PC, Mac and Linux. For those hoping to play with others on any platform, including consoles and Android/iOS devices, players will need to play the Bedrock edition. Bedrock edition is slightly different from Java in a number of mechanical ways due to being made uniform for most platforms, but it can still be incredibly enjoyable, especially with friends across the platform divide.

Personally, I’d recommend using two PCs since you’ll only need a single copy of the game . That would be the easiest, most inexpensive, and most flexible . You can sign-in with the same copy of the game on any number of systems, and play on a LAN world or run your own dedicated server on any PC . Other PCs on the network will detect it and be able to join in.
